With much anticipation i started the 39 grand campaign on Colonel difficulty with all boxes ticked.
The mission statement is clear and to the point.
At turn 1 i imagined a "battlegroup" north and a battlegroup" south. The forces of bg south look rather balanced, althou after finishing the mission, the AT gun was useless there. In my opinion i could have used it in battlegroup north to assist my tank and recon unit in taking out the tankettes. If i will replay the mission, i am going to divert the AT north as quick as possible.
Bg north is rather meager in units so i decided to buy 3 additional core units: Sturmpanzer I, Pz 38(t) and a Ju87B. At the end of turn 2 i also bought a pionier inf as the 4th core unit for the same group. During turns 1-4 i only managed to knock out 5 polish units, and after elimininating the polish air presence, taking out the other ground units went much faster.
I captured the last airfield at turn 10, the last city (Konin) at turn 12 and without enemy units left on the battlefield. I was hoping to attack Konin from the rear as well but unfortunately my units couldn't cross the bridge at hex (28,7).
Taking the cities and airfields were a blessing for the prestige, since reinforcements were needed during most turns. Prestige at the end is 484.
The AI managed to catch me once by surprise by attacking the flank of bg north with a tankette and cavalry unit and were almost succesful to eliminate my Sturmpz.
Overal the scenario went smooth and it did feel like actual Blitzkrieg. It is a good opener and well-balanced. It gets you into the spirit of things...
I also caught a typo on hex (12,14). The city is not called Legenica but Legnica.
Thank you
