Ok I'm only 3 years late with this, but I can't see that anyone else has spotted it and there is nothing in the errata

Lombard (p.20) under the list of allies

from 776ad
Norman Allies - Italo-Norman - see note p.76

My guess is that the date is just wrong for the Norman's to be set at this date (the Italo-Normans are on p.28 of "Oath of Fealty") -
or else you can have allied command with 2 Bg of 4 Knight- Undrilled, Armoured Superior, Lancer/Sword before 1040!
