Putting images in the game

Post by stockwellpete »

How is this done, please? What is the actual process? Presumably these are pictures of model soldiers, are they?

They are images of model soldiers and ohters can be imported. Someone was working on a Napoleonic version and did just that. Unfortunatly, I don't know how but suspect you just drop them into the images folder with the appropriate file name.

I have never attempted but at one point I was poking around all the files and what I think are some things needed/studied:

ist each graphic is an individual figure with 16 angles
a bg has anywhere from 2 to 6 figures in it

there is a file that controls the x y and maybe even z coordinate of each figure in a BG so it displays apropriatly within the boundries of the hex grid when in game

i believe there is a second file that sorts the BG according to army as well as what figures are associated with it...

finally there is the file that the editor reads so the BG will display when using the GUI within the editor. and has the basic unit charactorictcs for that graphic ie chariot, heavy inf etc.

it can get consfusing as there are multiple files that look the same as well as several unused folders that have the graphics of a BG as a whole and not individual figures (because Slitherine in one of the earlier patches completely changed how the game stores same) , there are likly many relics and leftover files hanging around...

You should check the matrix forum as i beleive someone at one point was displaying custom graphics he had done and expressed willingness to provide instruction on how he did it if anyone asked...
Or you can wait for Slitherine to release the tutorial on how to do so...

We are working on documentation for players to customise the game. The core issue at the moment is how to do this without opening the door to cheating. Also as the game already allows players to build their own scenarios, how to prevent users issuing challenges for multi-player games where the opponent will not have the graphics assets required to play.

Arnt all the graphics "preloaded" as long as you have the latest patch and independant of actual expansions owned?
