What is your favorite army so far in Eternal Empire?

The Teutonic knights work better than they look like they should. I've generally had good results with them.stockwellpete wrote:The Teutonic Knights (but they are proper "naff").
I suspect the Hungarians and the Polish are among the strongest lists in EE.

Ah, I have mostly fought against the Poles with the Teutonicc Knights so that probably helps to explain my wretched sequence of results.batesmotel wrote:The Teutonic knights work better than they look like they should. And who would my opponent be then?TheGrayMouser wrote:Ah , only give credit to the dag army and not your opponent I see
The other thing that me and TGM are finding out is that the Ottoman Turks are not that strong either. We have been using the Later Ottoman Turkish army of Murad II (mid 15thC) and they are getting walloped a bit by the Serbs and Hungarians in our paired games. Not sure what the answer is with them at the moment. They have real problems coping with mounted knights.
The other thing is that I have got to the point where I am only interested measuring armies against their historical opponents. The fact that the Teutonics might beat be able to beat the Wallachians or Early Ottomans is of no real significance to me. They never fought them in their own right at all. But they did fight the Poles and against them the Teutonic knights are a bit naff, it has to be said (which historically was the case, of course).

I think I've beaten the Lithuanians with the Teuts rather than the Poles but I'm willing to try a match if you want.

Yes OK, Chris. I will put a paired game on the system, Teutons versus Poles, password "batesmotel". Frank has done a superb version of Grunwald-Tannenberg 1410 and it is one of the EE scenarios - you might be interested to try that one too at some stage.batesmotel wrote: Pete,

EDIT: It is the earlier Polish army you need for the Teuton match-up, Chris.

Hi Pete,
The results of this match were one draw and a Teutonic victoryfor Pete (100% vs 94%) that could easily have gone either way. So do you still think the Teutonic Knights are a naff army? Seems like they can play the Later Polish (at least the early version) pretty evenly.

I did have my "prog-rock" on while we were playing so you were always going to be at a disadvantage.batesmotel wrote:Hi Pete,

To answer your question, I still think the Teutonic army is inferior to the Polish one, although "naff" is too harsh a description, I agree. In games between players of similar skill levels, I think the Teutonic player needs a bit of luck to beat the Polish army. I would expect the Poles to win 2 games out of 3 if you were fighting a series of battles.

Yes - the war wagons seem way underpowered for the cost especially since they can not move into contact with enemy units.

Re: War Wagons
In a 500pt army, how many war wagons are you picking, Charles? I have had mixed melee results with them, sometimes quite good, sometimes really poor. But if you mix them up with some light artillery and "superior" polesarm-men then they can present quite a strong battle-line. Their historical opponents were the Late Medieval Germans and we are talking about "average" pikemen here really.CharlesRobinson wrote:Yes - the war wagons seem way underpowered for the cost especially since they can not move into contact with enemy units.

I mixed my War Wagons with Mounted Knights. Tried using the War Wagons as my advancing wall, and the Kights to push the enemy. Did not work out so well.

Re: War Wagons
This is where I am with the Hussite army at the moment, Charles . . .CharlesRobinson wrote:I mixed my War Wagons with Mounted Knights. Tried using the War Wagons as my advancing wall, and the Kights to push the enemy. Did not work out so well.![]()

4x Veteran Cavalry (one of these a "troop" commander)
6x War Wagons (one of these a "field" C-in-C)
4x Bohemian nobles (one of these a "troop" commander)
2x mounted crossbowmen
8x Drilled Polesarmsmen
4x Light guns
So it is 28BG's, which is very small - and it is picked specifically to fight the Later Medieval German army (lots of pikemen) from "Storm of Arrows", who were their main historical opponents.
