What are these ?

Post by Polkovnik »

I've no idea what these Essex cavalry are. Something ancient and Eastern I would guess, but I've looked at a lot of the pics on the Essex website and have not seen them. Any ideas ?

IMO they are generic. You could paint them up as a lot of different stuff.

What they are supposed to be is a different matter. But they are very old figures, probably true 15mm as well

Bloody awful is what they are...!

Looks like my nine year old painted them. As to what i concur with philqw78 - generic light/medieum average nothingness

I don't think they are that old. They are a similar size to all the other Essex I have.

Do you think they would work as Lydian protected cavalry ?

I know, they'll get a bit of repainting then a dip before basing if I'm going to keep them.

I suspect they work best as Dark Age medium cavalry of some sort. They might be EGA-1 from the Early Germans. The head and helmet look very close to EGA-2 which is shown while EGA-1 isn't. Lydian cavalry is early enough that they most likely wouldn't have shields like contemporaneous Greeks and Persians.

I don't think Lydians wore trousers.
These must be early germans or goths.

Come on Phil leave him alone before he started his lonely hill waliking he was shaped magnificently to be rolled down them. He is a shadow of his former self now.

Going for another walk Paul? It just worries me that people going for walks on their own in the hills are looking for somewhere to bury their next victim

They'd work for Seleucid citizen light cavalry.
