New tester - initial impressions of Beta 6.00

Post by stevesykes »

My background is as a moderate club player of DBM, having progressed with WRG from 3rd edition in the seventies. I have now read through the rules twice and these are my initial thoughts. The main impression is the clarity of the writing, compared to the brain-burn induced by reading DBMM. I like the use of tables to summarise key points of the rules, rather than having to work through massive chunks of complex text. The use of colour in the tables, for example the simple and complex move chart, also clearly expresses information that would be lengthy to explain in text alone. The intention to include explanatory diagrams within the text rather than separated to the end is also a positive move. So I think the presentation of the rules is very good. I would hope that the release version would either have an index or table of contents to assist reference to specific points.

I think I have a grip on the basics, including the POA shooting and combat process; I have watched a FoG game in progress at the club, so have seen the rules in action. I generally learn best by trying things out, so the next step is to get some troops on the table to test how the understanding I think I have survives contact with reality. To facilitate this, how does one get access to the army lists?
