Warfare 2011

Post by TimChild »

A gentle reminder (actually not-so-gentle as I'm trying to ensure that you save money :) ). Warfare is 19 and 20 November, which is surprisingly near.

Full details are on the club website at http://www.wargamesassociationreading.co.uk. I have received various queries about navigating the pages, so to help you work it out what you need to do is

1. Click on the Competitions tab on the left and you'll be taken to the comp.s page.

2. There you will find links embedded in the text to take you to the competitions rules and an entry form.

3. Alternatively, you can book online (would you believe it, WAR has entered the internet-age...?), using the link just underneath the shopping cart on the right of the screen.

Book now in order to get your entry in at £12 rather than the £18 that it will cost from 5 October. (And do it now, no excuses for trying to pay £12 after 5 October if the website crashes under the strain of everyone trying to beat the deadline  ).

Lists to come to me as usual please, and as usual your list does not have to accompany your entry, as long as I get it by no later than 31 October.

I can't believe there are 2 of them, having said that I'm even considering it as I don't find the FOGAM periods that exciting, but then again I might role out the Carthaginians for the first time in FOG

David, you stick with those Carthaginians.

And what is the delectable Lynda considering using?

I will be using something I've not used this year in the ancient period.

What am I going to use Cats with Dave?

Pete, you know me I never leave home with an IC! My IC-less Ottomans managed to take down an Ottoman with an IC in Lisbon. I think the first move in my first 2 games gave me the time to rush across and break my opponents.

Also Pete, get out of 25mm and face me like a man in 15mm!!

Well I've used Santa Doodies twice and Dom Roms once so some HF in there.

I've got Warfare mixed with Derby, it's Derby where I'm using an army I haven't used this year.

I take no credit for that, it's all down to our new obergruppenfuhrer Steve Thompson. I just pray that it works!

Good news is that Simon Hall as volunteered to player-umpire for the FOG:AM. I will be in my usual role of trying to herd cats!

Cheers,

Tim

A couple of points to note about this year's Warfare rules!

Post by TimChild »

I knew that there was something else I meant to mention in relation to FOG at this year's Warfare. :)

1. Games, as always at Warfare will be 3h 15m +/- 0-5 random.

2. Game end will be effectively whistle-stop (well, in my case "shout-stop"). As at Britcon, games end at the end of the current phase when time is called. Seemed to work at Britcon and time tends to be tight at Warfare. This way you hopefully get a little time to go shopping and/or grab a bite to eat.

3. Table sizes: All tables will be near-as-anything 6' wide (the masking tape narrows it slightly). At WAR we believe in giving you as much room to play on as we can, so the general rule is that "you play on the green stuff". That means that tables will often be more than 4' deep, but I have inserted a rule that you can agree to narrow that to 4' if both players agree beforehand. I am highlighting the issues because there was a debate here after last year's event about trying to shoo horse archers off the table and not being able to do it because the table was 4' 6" rather than 4'.

Re the rule on allies. Does this mean anything using a Hun ally in the Roman period must be dated 433 to 453 and use Attilla as the Ally general ??????? :?

Looking forward to Warfare - I'll be along and umpiring.

Not sure which period to go in yet but might take a run out with the Ancient Britons for fun.
