Can't edit and save copied campaign files.

Post by bbriggs »

I installed the latest patch and now my edited files won't save. I copied the Blitzkriege France Campaign and wanted to make some changes. I edited France3.bam and saved it but none of the changes appear. I checked the latest date on the bam file and it showed the correct time when it was saved. What am I doing wrong??

I tried editing a file from the Battle of the Bulge campaign which I had copied earlier and it works okay. I also just copied the Normandy campaign and was able to edit a scenario. It looks like my problem is only with Blitzkriege France.

Anything that you modify needs to go into MyDocuments\MyGames\Campaigns or what your OS has.

You need to copy the France campaign folder to this location and edit from there with new names.

Check around the modding and scenarios forums for how to posts by me.
You can call me junk - and type that with one hand.

Thanks for the reply. The game will automatically copy the campaign for you. However, I copied it manually and changes never get saved although the file modify time changes. I'm a retired IT person so I know my way around Windows 7. I'm only having a problem with Blitzkrieg France. The other campaigns modify without a problem. There must be something unique about this campaign.

Thanks for the suggestion but my problem is different. Everything works perfectly except the changes to Blitzkrieg France don't take effect when I play the scenario. I can edit any other campaign without a problem. The file is being saved and is slightly larger than the original file. I also tried saving the edited file with a different name, rename the original, then rename the edited file to the original files name. No joy.

Market Garden has no BAM files!

I thought I would install Market Garden and try to edit that campaign to see if I had the same problem. There are no BAM files at all in Market Garden!

There shouldn't be any BAM files in BF either. I think that is an error :).

You would need to delete the CAMPAIGN.REZ file and then any BAM changes should be shown - the REZ overrides any BAM files.

Hope that helps.

Cheers

Deleting the REZ file seems to have made the difference. One thing I noticed, if you want to use an edited campaign, you must start with the first scenario and work through the campaign. If you don't, the edits don't seem to take effect. I'll do some more testing but I think we'll call this fixed. If I have further problems I'll open a new thread. Thanks for your assistance. By the way, Blitzkrieg France does have BAM files. Market Garden does not. Don't know how you could edit that one.

You can't... and I don't know how you got the France .bam's either. Because that was my first complaint when that expansion was introduced. I am not a whiz at anything, so no bam = no scenario editing for me.

From Merr:

We cannot edit them ... hopefully we will eventually get an update that includes the BAM and scenario script files. I suppose it's a technical issue since it's open source.

I'd love to see how the maps are built! The bridge work itself looks awefully complex.

The campaign is wonderful and gives me lots of ideas on how to run a proper carryover.

Rosseau,

bbriggs is correct ... I checked the campaign folder in the main directory, the France BAM's are there now (for some reason?), perhaps v1.6 kicked them in.

Check on your end, they should be available to edit. :)

But yeah, MG bams are not there. Maybe some day.

Well, that's a nice little bonus. I had bought MG last night and could swear I checked the France dir. Thank you, gentlemen. I'm sure we'll see MG at some point.
