Can't remember the full results, but the top 4 were:-

1st - Alasdair Harley - Dagestan Devils (somewhere in the Caucasus!) - 1630
2nd - Bob Medcraft & Andy Kitcher - Later Swedish - 1682
3rd - Ben Jones & Kevin Johnson - Anglo Dutch in Ireland (but mainly consisting of Superior Danish 6 musket bayonet Battlegroups!) - 1691
4th - Steve Hammond & Jo Strait - Swiss (no concertina's here just gorgeously painted elite Keils!) - 1500

I'm sure the official results will be posted soon. Just a tip - don't all rush out to buy a Dagestani Army (even if Khurasanian produce the figures). It's not a "super Army" - just another pile of crud in the hands of a bloody good FOGR player!

On a personal basis thanks to all our opponents which saw Jim and my mainly mounted Royalists take on Alasdair's Dagestani's Devils, Ben & Kevin's Turnips - oops sorry -Swedes, Dave and Chris's 20 Battlegroup Peasant Army monster and Charles and Richard's Late C17th dandy dude French (with 2 units using stolen Royalist standards!).

Great fun all round and a very well run event (even with Oxford club dubiously rigging the round 2 draw!). We didn't threaten the prize rostrum despite a very close run 12-8 defeat to Alasdair!. Our claim to fame is therefore we took more points off the winner than anyone else!

Great to see even more teams in 2012.

One day, we'll get to face the "Madaxeman" so we can feature in an online published (hopefully victorious) battle!!!

Don

A tremendous weekend with a scratch army - army lists already posted on my site. Ticked off all the key boxes for a comp in Abingdon;

1. Rode over some enemy foote with the Winged Hussars
2. Lost to Alasdair
3. Had one game with luck on our side
4. Had one game without it ...
5. Lost the Average Horse 4 times out of 4
6. Drank a pint of Hen
7. faced off against a 21 BG army !

marvellous - roll on Reading.

Well I hope these are worth waiting for!!

If I had my way I would have put the restriction on Oxford players playing each other all the way through the competition. Lucky Alasdair gave me a 22 - 3 point teaching lesson.

The results will be on the BHGS website soon properly formatted.

Nice. Always good to see. I don't believe the Caucasian States can have LF in groups of 4 though, I guess those are meant to be 6s?

BTW, the bow armed amoured must be cavalry, not horse.

The bow armed were cavalry and there were no Swedes of any sort involved, it was extremely fun to play, I suppose the major advantage is just the manouvreabilty of the army allowing you to put a lot of pressure whereever you wanted, it isn't particularly balanced and would suffer against massed pike and shot, though to be fair I didn't fight any of those at the weekend. To win with mounted I think you need to be flexible as possible as in a straight fight you will normally lose to pike and shot, you need to use your speed as much as possible, which means only closing within 6 inches (ie you lose your ability to march move) when you are going to commit to combat, always put your generals in if you need to win a combat (yes I do lose a few) and also accept loses to ty up the rest of the enemy army whilst you win somewhere else.

Well thats what I try to do anyway

Now will someone tell me what you do with foot

cheers

Excellent weekend but you missed off one player - my son Thomas Young at his first tournament! We didn't do too well though we was sooo close to destroying one of those Swiss keils. We stayed at the Doghouse Inn which now seems quite appropriate....

Having invested about $3,000 in making the range, I want to thank you from the bottom of my heart for this tip! :D

Don't worry Mr. K., I think we listen to the results more than the tips :)
