Thebans (dBa)

Post by ravenflight »

Hi All,

Although this is a dBa army, I thought I'd post them on for eye candy purposes.

Thebans, with the Sacred Band on the Left flank and the commander towards the middle complete with a post Leuctra trophy.

Really nice job.

Two questions to improve my own bases.

Where did you purchase flowers and tufts you use on the bases ?
How do you "spray" the grass flock on your bases or is it a painting effect between green and white ?

Hi Fredrik,

Thank you for compliment.

The items I use are:

Noch HO Ballast Brown 2, or in German: Gleisschotter Braun - code 09372 HO, TT.
Woodland Scenics Green flock - sorry I don't have codes handy, but will be able to find it if you wish to have specifics.

The above I mix until I'm happy with the consistency. The flock tends to 'filter' to the bottom of the tub, so I occasionally give it a shake. I then base my figures using white glue and let it dry. Then paint white glue onto the whole of the base and just dump it in the tub, drag it through the flock/ballast mix.

The flowers are a mix of:

Noch flowers: http://www.noch.de/en/produktkatalog/ar ... ategorie4=

Not sure if the link will work properly, so if you go to http://www.noch.de/en/ and type in 'flowers' in the search bar...

Anyway - you just glue them on - easy as...

Hope you have success :D

Thanks for the tips.

I've found the ballast online

Now that I know what it is, I may found it at a local store and test your kind of mix with my current grass flock.

According to your photo, it looks like you white brush the ballast, am I right ?

No, it's a brown ballast, but there is quite a bit of lighter stones in the brown, so it's just 'raw'.
