Sometimes, some actions, as selecting units, using arrow scrolls, etc, take much time to proceed, the game seems to "freeze" maybe loading something, as not always appears a round ball or a sand clock, it is confusing. It's easy to make another click, or try to move the window (arrows up/down right/left) then, when it recovers, you are far way from you should, or worse you have moved a unit with a click not desired.
For exemple: an amphibious invasion that should attack after disembark.
After disembarking the unit must attack the city but the game seems "thinking", so I tried to select again the unit, then the game recovers and the unit is considered moved, so my attack is gone.
An easy example to reproduce, when "End Game" is selected, a dialog box appears inmediately asking to confirm the action, when selecting "√" nothing seems to happen for 6-7 seconds, your cursor is alive but not seems that nothing happens, after a while, the game recovers and closes the window and end the game.
My MacBookAir is not a slow machine, I think if the game used any of the "wait" cursors, in these situations when it needs to load or do something, it will avoid the feeling of "what's happening now?".
I've also the latest MacBoo Pro, used exclusively for music, is the quicker MacBook now. I installed CEAW to try, and happens the same.

Ok,
You are playing against the AI. That will for now be slow. The game was optimized for play against human opponents either using HotSeat or PBEM.
The next patch may improve the speed as for the way the AI plays that is another story.
Amphib invasions work to clear the hex so you may land on an occupied hex. You can attack after an un-opposed landing.
