Freeze on startup
Hello,
I just bought and downloaded Field of Glory digital version+Eternal Empire but I can't get it to run. The game always freezes on the startup screen with the Slitherine, Osprey logos etc.. and won't go any further.
I have looked through the forums and found this topic regarding a similar error: viewtopic.php?t=13464 but it didn't help in my case, I installed in default location and Windows doesn't recognise any problem with the installation.
I have tried to re-installing two times (both with and without Eternal Empire), updated to the last graphics drivers, tried changing compatibilty mode for the .exe but nothing worked.
These are my laptop specs:
Amd Athlon II Dual-core M300 @2,00Ghz
4GB RAM
ATI Mobility Radeon HD 4650
Windows 7 Home Premium 64-bit
Directx 11
Any help is appreciated. Thanks,
Montbrun83

Firstly, can you turn off compatibility mode, as that's unlikely to help.
Please try leaving it starting up for 2 or 3 minutes, just in case it's taking longer than usual for some reason. It does take a little extra time to build a cache of historical scenario details after being installed/updated.
Failing that, can you try and get back to the desktop while the game is starting up, using either Alt+Tab or the Windows key. When you've done that, right-click the game's button in the taskbar, and see if any message dialog appears (this is an occasional problem that has happened on ATI graphics cards). If necessary, dismiss the dialog and the game should start up.

Thank you for the quick reply.
The game still does not start however. I tried to leave it up to 15 min but it won't go beyond the logo screen. I followed the instructions, restored compatibility to default, but no message dialog appears. In Taskmanager Windows still counts the program as running (not "not responding"), and Fieldofglory.exe constantly uses around 50% CPU memory. After going from game to desktop 3-4 times the screen eventually goes black but I still have to close it manually through Taskmanager, otherwise it just stays there. I re-installed again but it does the same thing and I never got any error message. Any other possible solutions?

PC Language is set to Italian. I bought it through Slitherine shop section on August 19th, Order Reference Number: 42754905.
The installer was version 1.3.3, but the first time I installed also Eternal Empire which updated to 1.60 (I don't know if that's a different thing from the installer version though). I did quite a few re-installs with the other combinations as well I think, without Eternal Empire and/without patching FOG.

I will be leaving for 10 days so you have time to work it out hopefully. If nothing is found out by the time I return maybe a last chance could be a complete re-format of the pc, but I would leave it as a last resort since everything else works well and it takes much time (resource which could be much scarce in September). Besides if the problem is the graphic card there's no guarantee a format would fix anything.
