Green Replacements vs Elite Replacements

Post by monkspider »

Hey guys,

Does anyone have any thoughts on proper use of the different types of replacements? I have almost always used elite replacements but I think that is probably not an optimal strategy. Does anyone have any good rules of thumb to consider?

I attempt to use ELITE replacement ONLY on core units. Also i pay attention to how much experience is lost if I use regular replacements. If you hover your mouse over the regular replacement button, it shows how much experience you lose. If you have a 325 (3 full stars) experience unit and by using regular replacements, brings it down to 305 (3 full stars). You may save 51 prestige with a minimal lose to experience. I alway user elite replacements if regular replacements drops my experience enought to not complete a star. Example: 325(3 full stars) to 289 (2 full stars) with regular replacements is no good in my opinion.

I only ever use regular replacements unless:

1. Elite unit I want to baby, an SS Tank for example.
2. Unit rarely takes damage, level bomber or artillery piece.
3. I've saved up an obscene amount of prestige, high 4 digits or even 5 digits.
AND
4. It's the deploy phase.

It's not uncommon for my Iron Cross 1st class veteran of multiple battles Pioneer infantry to only have 50 experience.

I havent decided definetely when to use elite replacement.

Right now am just elite replacing units that are already on the right family tree, a family I will be using for a long time. Pioneers, PzIV, towed artillery, Me109, Heinkel, ...

There is no point in using elite replacements on units from failed families. The PzI tanks you get on first, for example. They cost 100-something prestige, they have very low elite replacing cost, but once you reach Low Countries its easier to disband and receive those 100-prestige than to upgrade to PzIV.

If you choose to elite replace the PzIB and then to upgrade it to PzIVD, you end up paying 278P, losing the 108P the PzIB costs and all the elite replacements prestige you invested. 278+108+cost of elites. Your only advantage is the star the PzIB collected in Poland and Norway.

If you choose to regular replace the PzIB then disband it and purchase a brand new PzIVD, you end up paying 170P. 278-108. You do lose the experience it might had.

I usually do NOT replace units during a fight.

And IF I absolutely must do so. I check carefully how much experience I would loose by using regular replacements. If I do not loose a star I use regular.

I only use elite during the deployment phase.

Depending on my prestige though I use elite on most/all units....only in rare cases where the replacements are really expensive and I only have to replace a little strenght (1, 2 points) so that the experience loss is also negligible I use regular replacements instead.

Most important factor is I upgrade first and replace later.

  • Only on core units.
Only when a unit has almost a star of experience or higher.
Always on level bombers and fighters.
Almost always on tac air and infantry.
    Usually on tanks and artillery.
Usually not on other stuff like AA, anti-tank, and recon (those recon guys should have know what they were signing up for, anyway.)
