Steep and gentle hills?

Post by Bladeheart »

When reading through the manual there is reference to steep and gentle hills, however to date I have not come across either terrain hexes, just 'Hills'; could someone please calrify this matter for me?

Also, if it is only hills now, how does that type of hex affect play?

Many thanks in anticipation and cheers. :)

Nope, there are two types, the "steep" ones look "craggy" , graphics wise.

If your playing the historical scenarios you'll run into both types at some point, you'll definalty see both in many of the maps for the DAG battles. (and you'll wish you hadnt if you have an army of pikes  )

Thanks for the reply.

I gather then that both types show up as 'Hills' when the cursor is moved over them, so it is a case of looking closely?

Cheers

Hmm, steep hills should say "steep hills" when you hover the cursor over.... I dont have access to FOG now but I'll see i I can find one of the base scenarios that has them so you can get a peek on what they look like.

As the result of of what was said I 'explored' a few maps and have found steep hills and hills.

From the PDF manual as mentioned above I found reference to steep and gentle hills and, can see the effect that the steep variety has. However, assuming that hills and gentle hills are one in the same, am I correct then when I say that hills only affect line of sight?

Cheers

Omarquatar,

Thank you for taking the time to reply; however I can find no reference in the xl spreedsheet, nor in the wiki, nor the pdf help guide to indicate that gentle hills have any affect beyond offering cover.
There are many references to the affect that steep hills have.

Could anyone please clarify exactly what affect gentle hills/hills other than steep hills, have?

Cheers. :?

Steep hills and gentle hills both provide +1 POA for impact and melee when fighting downhill. A big difference!

In addition, steep hills are rough hexes....HF and cavalry fighting from or into them are very disordered (-2 dice); MF are disordered (-1 dice).

There is also the line of site benefit you mentioned.

Bottom line - understanding how to use hills is critical, many battles are decided by one side managing to fight downhill.
