AAR for Barbarossa

Post by adrianoku »

My intention is not to write a conventional AAR ( the one from “Horseman” is the state of the art ), but to put on paper my war plan. I will not write down a turn by turn comment, but I’ll try to make the point of the situation when it’s necessary, and possibly describing the situation ( and the plan) by images. It’s easier for me ( english it’s not my native language) and probably it’s less boring for the one of you which will read it.
Just only an initial description and some numbers:
I started this operation with 3924 prestige points gained from previous operations, after reinforcements remained me 1983 points.
The objective is to maintain most of prestige points for future operations which will be long and bloody, so caution is a must.
I will not bore you with my organization of the troops, let’s know I have three division explained in the map:
Yellow lines for the 1st , purple for 2nd and green for 3rd division, and red for fallschirmjager.
In the north I have 1st DIV. with two objectives: Grodno and Bialystok with the support of 34th SE Panzer from 3rd DIV. and Vilna.
In the centre front there is the 2nd DIV. with objectives: Bialystok and then Volkovysk
Then I have 3rd DIV. , objectives : Brest Fortress
Fallschirmjager will lunch towards Baranovichi airfield, hoping not to be detected near the swamp-
And this is the situation on 22 June 1944:

After few turns, on 24th june Grodno and Bialystok are mine and every unit has passed the Bug river. On 28th my fallschirmjager regiments occupy the Baranovichi airfield.

This is the situation in the morning of 2 July 1940 , all the objectives of the first phase are in my hands, only the Brest fortress is resisting but every defense around it are defeated. In order to accomplish this task I’ll buy another pioniere regiment for the 3rd division ( obviously it could be useful for next campaign too).

And this is the war plan of the phase two:
In the north 1st DIV: Here I have now greats plans ahead, before going for Polotsk I prefer securing my right flank conquering Lapel, supported from the SE panzer unit detached from 3rd DIV.
Centre 2nd DIV: An easy ( I think) assault to Novogrudok then rush for Minsk, with the right flank to the south covered by two regiments of Fallschirmjager which will go for Bobruisk, waiting the arrival of the 3rd DIV. which is still assaulting Brest fortress.

8 July 1940
Objective accomplished! The red bear is almost defeated completely, only Smolensk and Vitebsk remains as primary objective. 1st DIV. will go for Nevel and Vitebsk, 2nd and 3rd DIV will rush for Vitebsk and Smolensk together. I can be patient and not risk anything, because I have six turns remaining to gain a decisive victory!

16 July 1940
I think there are no more enemies in the map, every objective primary and secondary is mine now!
There is some crowd in Smolensk ...

And now some statistics:

I finished the operatin with 2506 prestige points ( which will be 3826 for the next one: Kiev)
I loose 108 strenght point and had to reinforce 48. No units lost, nor core neither aux.
Ah ... the level is Colonel !

It is hard work! I'd have certainly finished my 1st campaign by now if I just played through without the AAR, on the othe rhand its quite fun doing the AAR too

How to get this *alternative* emblem for german captured cities?
Also seems like you have more grey and visible auxilary unit plates.
Any chance to get this custom features?

The "emblem" is part of historical insigna pack here: viewtopic.php?t=26246
and yes I've changed plates for aux and core units, modifying \Panzer Corps\Graphics\overlay\strplates.png file. You can modify it as you like with any photoeditor program, or if you prefer I could post it here.
