GS v2.1 soon ready to the public. Last call to report issues

Post by Peter Stauffenberg »

We will soon report to Slitherine that we will release GS v2.1 to the public as a full installation. Tentative release date will be end of August or early September.

So this is your last call to report game balance issues, bugs etc. If you have anything you want to comment you need to do it now it might have to wait to be fixed until after the next public release.

GS v2.0 support for the Norwegian language is completed and will be released with the next beta (GS v2.01.19) patch Ronnie will provide by the end of the week.

Please report your issues here.

Greetings Borger,

This might be worth a revisit and finetuning in the code:
GSv2.01.18 - August 6, 2011
63. Removed the Gustav Line fortresses in Italy from all scenarios except the 1944.scenario. Added code that will remove the fortresses in ongoing games that haven’t reached July 1943 or had Allied units in Italy. The Gustav Line fortresses will spawn if:
a. Year is 1942 or later and an Allied unit has landed in a core Italian hex
b. Turn is July 1943 or later
c. A message about the spawn will be shown
d. The Gustav Line fortresses can be set in general.txt
Currently the end result is that Gustav Line gets built when Allies land in Italy, Sardinia, Sicily or in Albania. Should all of those be included in as a trigger? I guess one can argue for it. A coding effort requirement to separate between them is an equally good argument :)

Here's the but. The fortresses in the line will get wiped out when taken over by an Allied unit just as other unnamed fortresses do in this game. Should they be retaken by Axis unit the fortresses get rebuild every time.

The aim of this change was to decline the possibility of neutering the Gustav Line by an Allied landing into those hexes in early war(most likely by suicide parties). The rebuild factor keeps this true also for 42 onwards. Which can been seen as a positive. But no other unnamed fortresses get rebuild when retaken. The situation where Germans would rebuild the Gustav line over and over again while at the very same time they wouldn't rebuild lost and retaken Sigfried Line or eastern fortresses would be very unhistorical - say for 1944.

Maybe it would better just to keep the '42+ date for the possibility of building the line, make it an one time event and force Axis "garrison" the hexes against Allied (suicide)attacks '42 onwards.

This is a known bug that will be fixed in the next beta release. I encountered this same bug as the allies in one of my games. I sacrificed an airborne unit to destroy one of the Gustavo fort hexes only to find that it was rebuilt after it was retaken. That was a nasty surprise ... but no more. :D

Hello,

It's good to hear the situation will get corrected.

Will the triggers include Albania and Sardinia after the fix, too?

May I drop an other idea for a fix? Have it so that each of the fortress gets built one time after the trigger on the first turn the hexe is in Axis hands. That way a suicide garrison in '42 can't neuter the fortresses. The line just gets completed after they have been dealt with. This way wouldn't force Axis to garrison the empty hexes before hand.

Just my 2 cents,

I have checked 2 things regarding new severe winter rules:

1. If severe winter starts in january 42, the axis units only suffer 20 effectiveness penalty instead of 25
2. When severe winter starts a message about allied units losing 20 effectiveness loss is showed and I think the allied units only lose 5 effectiveness loss.
