Windowed
When I check on the option I can see that PzC is in a window, can see the Start Bar (XP) and can move the window if I drag on the sidebar on the right of the screen. Am I supposed to be able to size the window, because I can't figure out how to.
I too am having difficulties with the window mode.
I can resize in the main menu. But I can't move it around.
When I left the main menu, the windows reset to a full size even having resize it in the main menu. I can then move the window, but like El Condoro cannot resize it, only when it's in the main menu.
So to summarize:
I can't resize outside main menu and can't drag/move it in main menu.

You can resize the window, just left click and hold the borders of the window with your mouse and you see a double direction arrow to resize the window.

I don`t think you can drag, if that is desired Alex will have to check it.

I am using Windows 7 64bit.
Moving and resizing the window works, to move it I click the grey area of the right UI bar.
It is working!
But like Xerkis and others I think it is a bit awkward. The usual window bar with _[]X would be nice.
But I guess that's rather tricky to code I assume otherwise it would be in already.

Installed Beta3.....
Still issues with the Window option.
Mouse pointer gets stuck within the window. Have the game in window mode and try to mouse to something outside of the window and it doesn’t leave. Just stays at the edges of the window.
Also, still no minimize or maximize buttons. You can maximize by double clicking on top edge of window and then restore to original size by double clicking again. But no way to minimize window – and since the mouse can’t leave the window, can’t get to desktop or other applications. I don’t see much point of a window if you can’t do that.

This is by design. Scrolling is done by moving mouse next to window edge, so the game helps you to do this. You can always Alt-Tab out of the window if you need.Xerkis wrote:Mouse pointer gets stuck within the window. Alas, with existing game architecture it is next to impossible to do a proper window with titlebar and all the buttons there. In fact, even existing implementation took so much effort to implement that I often ask myself if it was worth all the trouble. I'm tempted to disable window mode until the game is properly refactored (which will happen when we set to porting it to other platforms).Xerkis wrote:Also, still no minimize or maximize buttons. Like I said - not much point to a window then. I can alt-tab with it not in window modeRudankort wrote:This is by design. I think I will just run it without the window mode. I find the window mode more annoying than helpful.Rudankort wrote:Alas, with existing game architecture it is next to impossible to do a proper window with titlebar and all the buttons there. Adam Jensen, what do you think of windowed mode?Xerkis wrote:I think I will just run it without the window mode. I find the window mode more annoying than helpful.

Window mode is a feature that all people use differently. For example, it enables you to stretch the battlefield across two or more monitors and see more map at a time, something not possible in fullscreen mode. But yes, if it is not useful to you personally, you have an option to turn it off. Always good to have a choice.Xerkis wrote:Like I said - not much point to a window then.

@ Kerensky: very funny indeed.
@Rudankort: very true. Window mode wasn’t ever a “must have” for me – perhaps a “would be nice” but nothing more. I play on my laptop (way smaller viewing area than 2 screens)
So I always play in full screen mode anyhow.
Just didn’t want to see you release the 1.01 patch, and then someone mentions it, and you all say, “Now why didn’t any of the Beta testers ever catch this one before we released it?”

Here is someone who asked for the windowed mode.
It's an amazing thing to have. It better utilizes the size of large monitors and allows to run the game in the background.
Sure you can ALT-TAB and use two monitors but it isn't close to just minimizing the window.
Panzer General Forever runs in a similar windowed mode and while it is lacking the usual window bar it is a very nice and useful mode.
Hint: just click the grey ui bar to drag and drop the window and your mouse cursor gets "unstuck" of the Panzer Corps window.
The question is if the current form of windowed mode is acceptable. It's working flawlessly on Windows 7 and while it takes some time to get used to this mode - it isn't behaving like the usual program window - it's nevertheless a nice feature to have.
Also think of the future, window modes for games become more and more common and the whole UI of the OS is supporting it. Windows 8 apparently even more so than Win7 and previous Windows versions.
