When you get your box back, why don't you take a look at Scenario #6, Crete 900 BC.
We could play as West and East Cretans, with the Central Cretans handled by the computer.
The starting positions are not symmetrical, but I think they're roughly equivalent.
West Cretans have gold and copper deposits, while the East Cretans have only marble, but the eastern cities are a little bit better-developed.
Anyhow, check it out and see what you think.

Having terrible memory, I do not remember his name.
The campaign was inte4resting. I started at the right side of the island and he at the left. I don't remember the details but he attacked my bottom right town while I transported my army from my other town by sea to threaten his capital and force him to retreat. Which he didn't, but I did destroy his army that attacked that town. The problem is I didn't pay attention and I missed the fact that he had no armies left inside his other town, so my army returned to base while I left that town alone....yes I could have ended the game then but I wasn't careful enough.
I don't remember exactly how it went after that but I lost the game. It was a good fight, it lasted an hour or so I think.

Hmm, well, OK.
I guess it depends on how much you fear the greek fire
I have assaulted a few times, and the first thing I learned was that the fire has a limit on how close to the walls it can fire. It has a minimum range.
So both sides want to charge immediately.
The attackers want to get in close to the walls, where the greek fire can't hit them while they're stalled in the melee.
The defenders want to engage the attackers out in midfield, where the greek fire can still hit them.
My usual strategy so far is to send in one army of expendables first, to soften up the defenders. That first army is usually wiped out. Then I'll send in my second army for the kill.
This, of course, supposes that one has two armies to work with!

LOL, OK, you're right!
I've spent the interval between the last post and this one playing that Lesbos scenario, and you're right. It is neither boring nor a stalemate.
Hmm, so many options. Does one play a defensive game while one builds infrastructure, or go for the zerg rush?
Coastal finesse, or "hey diddle diddle, straight up the middle" ?
Should the opposition's diplomat be flogged, blinded, beheaded, or boiled in oil?
