unable to install Panzer Corps
I ordered Panzer Corps the first day it was available and downloaded the file. I attempted to install the program several times and each time it failed.
My PC exceeds recommended hardware specs. I have an Acer Aspire 7540-1317. It has an AMD dual Processor Athlon II 2 ghz. CPU. It has 4 gigs of RAM and has an ATI RADEON HD 4200 graphics chip. It has a 320 gig. hard drive less than a quarter full. The OS is Windows 7 Home premium.
Upon starting the install I get a splash screen with a window stating where the program will be installed on the hard drive. Then the screen changes to a winter scene with a tank in the middle of the screen. At this point the program appears to be installing. However, after a short time I will be informed the program is no longer responding. This completely locks up my computer. I am not able to end the process even through the task manager. My only choice is to power off the PC and restart. I have tried waiting to see if the program will respond later and left the PC at that point for two hours without any better results. I had temporarily disabled my virus protection software prior to installation. I can't think of any other thing to try. Has anyone else had similar problems, and more importantly has anyone any solution ?
I have been looking forward to playing this game for many months and now that it's here, it's very frustrating not being able to.
Please, any assistance will be appreciated.
Thanks,
maclynn56

unable to install Panzer Corps
I had mentioned in the problem field that I did disable the virus protection each time I attempted to install the program. And I had tried to download the file again. 4 times. No luck on each occasion.
You could try to disable temporarily the UAC (only during the installation), run as Administrator the install file and install in a different folder besides Program Files.

There is no need to disable UAC, when you already plan to bypass is it by running the application as an administrator.VPaulus wrote:You could try to disable temporarily the UAC (only during the installation), run as Administrator the install file and install in a different folder besides Program Files.
Yes. But this way is silenter and with no UAC prompt. It's a placebo.Wings wrote:There is no need to disable UAC, when you already plan to bypass is it by running the application as an administrator.VPaulus wrote:You could try to disable temporarily the UAC (only during the installation), run as Administrator the install file and install in a different folder besides Program Files.
But yes you're right.
Thank you all for your suggestions. I appreciate the time you've taken to lend a hand. The disk arrived this morn. The same result occurred. This eliminates the possibility the digital file was corrupted. I had disabled virus scan. I ran install as Administrator and selected it to run in WinXP mode (both Service 2 and 3 ). Once again it did not respond after a couple of minutes.
One unusual thing occurred. During one of the many times I tried to install the program, I realized I hadn't copied the serial number from my email when the prompt came up for it. I answered cancel in the prompt window. Instead of exiting out of the installation and returning to the Windows screen, the program again stated it was not responding and locked up the PC. This was at a point when the program hadn't truly started.
Can anyone find a clue in this ?
Thanks again for your time.

There are no UAC prompts either if you run as administrator. UAC is introduced for a reason, it's another layer of security. I just don't think it wise to tell people to disable UAC and risking that they forget to enable it again.VPaulus wrote:Yes. But this way is silenter and with no UAC prompt. It's a placebo.

Our tech guys are saying:
"Something very system specific is at work there. I would follow up on the anti-virus, it has to be some other process interfering with the installation. Can you find out what anti-virus and security software he's running, exactly? Sometimes they have more than one. A DxDiag and a screenshot of running processes from the task manager would also be helpful.
We should also make sure he's logged in as administrator and has enough permissions and free space on the drive he's installing to, in case he has some kind of unusual setup like a network drive."
Can you try that and get back to us.

Still unable to install Panzer Corps
I have disabled anti virus sofyware each time I've attempted to install program It is CA antivirus program. I do not have any other malware or that type of software. I also received the program disk so that eliminates any firewall or corruted file possibility. I do have a dxdiag file . Is there someway I can attach it to this forum ?
maclynn56, could you try to install PzC with windows in safe mode?
Do you know how to startup the computer in Safe Mode?
You've to press F8 at the first prompt.
After that just choose Safe Mode.

After loging to Windows, just try to run the Panzer Corps installer.
If it installed correctly, then reboot your PC in normal mode and see if the Panzer Corps is running well.
For the DxDiag, just copy and paste in your answer to a Quote or Code window.

I had CA. It drove my system nuts! I finally got rid of it and switched to Trend Micro and haven't looked back....maclynn56 wrote:I have disabled anti virus sofyware each time I've attempted to install program It is CA antivirus program. When installing, which screens do you click through and what info do you edit so we can be sure we understand exatly where it is failing. It is going to be some issue with your UAC settings or virus checker but without uninstalling them and resetting everything to the defaults its hard for us to help as its not a game related issue, its an issue related to your machine.
Dear Help Desk and Forum users. I was FINALLY able to install Panzer Corps ! I tried installing in safe mode and it installed correctly immediately. I anxiusly restarted the PC to verify the game would work and it does ! I want to thank any and all wh tok the time to give me some assistance.
Sincerely,
maclynn56
P.S.
I don't know how to post this problem as solved, but it no longer an issue.

Re: unable to install Panzer Corps
Just in case somebody else has similar problems.
Downloaded (with Nortons Antiviris active)
It failed to install - would not even create an output file, even in windows safe mode.
Disabled Nortons Antivirus - downloaded it again. It installed ok (Didn't need to be in safe mode).

Re: unable to install Panzer Corps
it's issues like these that made me stop using any kind of firewalls or virus protections that aren't already part of the operating system. In my experience 3rd party security software digs itself so deep into the operating system layers that they end up interfering with just about every normal system operation and are on top of that nearly impossible to remove again without a complete system cleanup. Whenever I used one they ended up doing more harm and than every actually finding anything. Especially Norton I absolutely despise. That software can render a system useless and impossible to recover. it writes itself into so many registry entries that my registry size increased by 10% after it was done, it slowed my system down, interfered with games, internet operations, applications, installations, hardware drivers, you name it. Horrible piece of software.
