If your spearmen have compulsory supporting LF, does this put you off taking the spearmen ?

Supporting LF (last one !)

Post by Polkovnik »

Since it appears that people don't like LF supporting spears, and would prefer not to take them, I wonder how much of a problem it is.

I voted no. It's not a huge difference. Some of the Islamic armies with compulsory supporting LF are worth taking and it helps sort out the crusader knightly charges a bit.

I'm not a fan

I'm not a fan of LF in a 3rd rank as these guys are almost always Defensive spear. I guess they are pretty cool WHEN they are average, but most of the armies that I have/play are investing heavily in Ghilman, Light Horse and occasional knights.

Of course, the worse of these are my Crusaders. If I try to take them as Richard did in the 3rd Crusade, then I would need to have one rank of Defensive spear and the second rank as MF Crossbows. Talk about crummy!!! This BG description needs SOMETHING as I field this style of Defensive spear/shooters even less often.
