Byzzie List

Post by TheGrayMouser »

Not a bug but more of a general list question/comment : Which Byzantine list is supposed to represent the garrison at the fall of Constaninople? There are two lists that go to 1500 but was suprised to see they are basically very similar to the earlier ones, and also include superior homegrown byzzie knights. Even more suprising to me (as i dont know a whole lot about 15th century Byzantium), is they can get Ottoman Allies.
I guess i expected to see less Byzzie spears and assorted low quality cavalry etc , but a lot more western style mercs: dismounted knights, crossbowman etc. Maybe even Venetian allies instead of Ottomans ;)
I suppose this follows what the TT does so maybe just a more detailed sub-list discription would be in order? I'd write it if i knew what i was talking about :D

There will not be any central Byzantine list for their demise to the Turks. This is covered in a note in the printed lists pointing out that their last field army was at the end of the 14th C.

Sorry.

Ah didnt see the note, so these lists really represent late 14th century fieldarmies and not necasarily correspond to the dates then. Dont be sorry, I guess ill have to take that up with the TT authors, how can you not have a mid 15c byzzie army within a book titled after the rise of the Ottomans :D

There is a Morean Byzantine list in the EE DAG that goes all the way to 1460AD, after the fall of Constantinople. But the 'central' Byzantines stopped putting the armies in the field 60-70 years before that. The small garrison of the 1453AD is not really enough for a FOG list. Better to take up with the authors of the printed lists though.

I hear ya and agree, that was tongue in cheek humour about going after the TT authors. Additionally, the TT forum is one scary place as well :D
