Bruce challenge: third battle - Connor 1315

After forcing his way through the Moyry Pass, Edward the Bruce's forces burned Rathmore (home of the Anglo-Irish Savage family) and went on to capture Dundalk ( a de Verdon stronghold) at the end of June. The town was burned and the people massacred. In response to these depredations both Richard de Burgh, the "Red" Earl of Ulster and Edmund Butler, the Justiciar of Ireland mobilised their forces. However, it was just the Earl of Ulster who eventually gave battle to Edward Bruce at Connor in September . . .
