I just ended barbarossa in highest difficulty with a marginal victory. I would not always try to play most scenarios because you will get to sealion 42 and there you will die (or at least loose many core units)^^
At least at field marshall difficulty. Your AAR's are really nice. Carry on the good work my friend!

not necessarily, with 6 up to date core fighters and 3 core strat bombers (str 13-14), its not exactly simple, but I didnt lose a (core) unit either (diff: general).Generalex wrote:I just ended barbarossa in highest difficulty with a marginal victory. fm should of course be more difficult, but it should not mean death (but i playtested sealion42 as a scenario before actually coming to it in the campaign, since there was some discussion going on and I wanted to see for myself).
I would prefer the longer campaign (as you can see from my signature) => more scenarios experienced units in the later campaign
Nice AAR, really adds flavor to the game experience.
longer, alternative "PG" like Campaign new version 0.34 from 2011.08.02 (another bugfix & now in zip format)

Exactly what I'm doing....SardaukarCRO wrote:horseman, slow down a little .... look at the campaign tree and see where you can have marginal victories for more scenarios which means more prestige, better units, and also u can upgrade your tanks to tiger I in stalingrad, fighters and artillery to have more experience and combat abilities.
Lonngest campaign path to victory is Poland, Norway, LC, France, Sealion 40 (Decisive victory) Barbarossa, Kiev, Moscow 41 (marginal victory) Stalingrad, Kursk, Moscow 43 then onto America.
If I didn't get a decisive victory at sealion 40 then I would have gone to Greece (+1 scen) But I would have had to knock Russia out at Moscow 41 those to go to Sealion42 (+1) but therefore missed out on Stalingrad, Kursk and Moscow 43 (-3)
So as you can see I'm aiming for the highest number of scenarios, but wher eit makes no difference a Decisive victory gives more prestige
As you can see from my post above to play the most scenarios means leaving out Sealion 42Generalex wrote:I just ended barbarossa in highest difficulty with a marginal victory. Finding myself agreeing with the majority of High Command I know have the chance to lead my forces in support of Army Group South in an attempt to encircle and destroy a large portion of the Red Army.

I must leave a force to hold the line against the Russians in the centre in case they launch a counter offensive whilst I am fighting in and around Kiev.
To this end I have driven south with my 1st and 2nd Divisions (though the 2nd Divisions 6th Panzer Regiment is absent due to heavy loses and I have temporarily assigned the 48th SE Panzer Regiment to take their place) Also with me are the 32nd Bruckenpioniere Regiment, the 13th Gebirgsjager Regiment and the newly formed 60th Pioniere Regiment. I have also assigned 4 Fighter wings and 2 Fighter Bomber wings form my support Luftflotte (this includes the newly assigned 59th Bf110D Wing)
My remaining forces will hold the line in a defensive stance under the command of my Chief of Staff Colonel Ax.

Many Regiments of Army Group South will fall under my direct command for this campaign and I have ordered them to hold the line and wait for my forces before launching direct assaults, their main contribution will be to pin Soviet troops in place and stop them reinforcing against my assault. The 1st Division (Blue) is earmarked for the final attack on Kiev whilst the 2nd Division captures the objectives to the east.
Whilst many may criticize me for attempting to be a glory hound by trying to claim all the glory whilst AGS sits on the side lines this really is not the case. In truth my Regiments are battle hardened having been involved in every major campaign since the start of the war and I am concerned with the lack of support equipment possessed by AGS.

The 1st Division has stormed Semenovka and now move on Gyvech and Chernigov

Mean while the 2nd Division have taken Severskiy and crossed the river to outflank Shoska.

The Red Airforce have appeared, 2 MiG Wings in the North and 2 Bomber and 1 Fighter Wings in the south, their bombers took heavy damage on their attack runs.

The Soviets launch an attack south from Cherkassy and elements of AGS have asked permission to respond...my own forces would know to engage and destroy without orders!

The 1st Division has succeeded in capturing Gyvech destroying a Soviet Infantry and Artillery Regiment in the process.
In the Skies above a MiG Fighter Wing was also destroyed.

In the East the 1st Division manage to destroy two further Infantry Regiments but fail to secure Shpstka!
A second MiG wing has been destroyed by my Luftflotte

AGS has launched a counter attack with limited success. It is clear to me that these forces are not up to the same standard as my own Corps, how I wish I could have had my full force present.

The 1st Division has destroyed two Russian Infantry Regiments and seized Chernigov crossing the river in the process.

The 2nd Division began their encirclement of Konotop but in a moment of confusion none of my Regimental Commanders remembered to secure Shostka!!!
Another MiG Wing has been eliminated, even with only three quarters of their established strength my Luftflotte are securing air Supremacy.

The Soviets launched three counter attacks.
The first heavily damaged the 31st Sturmpanzer Regiment

The other two fell against AGS, the forces near Kiev held firm breaking up the Reds advance and the further east the Italians were targeted as a weak link but stood their ground.

A flak Regiment has been destroyed by the 1st Division today and an Infantry Regiment badly mauled. In the Air my Luftflotte continue to dominate with the destruction of another Fighter Wing.

Konotop has been seized by the 2nd Division, destroying an Infantry, a Flak, an Artillery and an Anti-Tank Regiment!
Shostka has finally been secured.

A Soviet Light Tank Regiment has counter attacked in the west and the 3rd Grenadiers bore the brunt of the fighting

AGS continue to hold although the Russian BA-10s are proving a handful for them.

The 1st Division secured the city of Nezhin today succeeding in destroying the counter attacking Russian Tank and Infantry Regiments as well as the weakened Infantry Regiment holding to the North.
During their advance they located the defences around Prilvki including a damaged Bomber wing that is quickly dispatched by my Luftflotte.

Rommy was easily overrun by the 2nd Division and I have dispatched a small detachment east to assault Sumy.

AGS finally achieve a result by forcing the BA-10 Regiment back with heavy casualties. If only these troops were as effective as my own they would surely be driving north by now.

The Red Air force is still fighting for control of the Skies – Two wings (1 Fighter and 1 Bomber) appear to bomb my forces.
Another Russian attack from Kiev achieves little, at least AGS is good for defending.

With the heavy defences of Prilvki I have decided to adjust the plan slightly. The 1st Division will split with some forces heading to Kiev (supported by AGS hopefully) and the remaining linking up with reinforcements from the 2nd Division to encircle the city.

The newly arrived Soviet Fighter Wing is destroyed whilst on the ground my detachment destroys the Infantry Regiment defending Sumy

The Defenders of Lokhvitsa prove stubborn and will need to be cleared out tomorrow. The remaining elements of the 2nd Division do better by destroying a Russian Artillery Regiment and completing the encirclement of Prilvki.
In the air my Luftflotte down the Russian Bomber wing.

Kiev is well protected even from behind!

Even so my forces complete the destruction of a Russian Artillery Regiment. The River may prove a formidable obstacle to cross and orders have been sent to AGS units in the area to commence an assault on the fortifications in front of the city, it remains to be seen if they are able to provide adequate support.
A second Flak Regiment has been reported to be defending Kiev making air assault unwise.

A further counter attack from Cherkassy further depletes AGS forces

Sumy was captured and the forces involved resupplied.
After bitter fighting the 13th Gebirgsjager Regiment succeeded in capturing Lokhasta destroying the defending infantry,
The Flak Regiment and the Infantry defending Prilvki have been destroyed and one of the defending Anti-tank Regiments badly mauled. The drive south revealed more of the Red army.

The last of the Soviet Artillery shielding Kiev are over run even as further reinforcements arrive from the east, AGS units have advanced but failed to push an attack on the fortifications.

Proving stubborn as always the Red army launch an assault against an AGS Regiment forcing it back with heavy casualties; at least they dished out plenty of damage in return.

The Assault on Kiev continues and an AA Regiment and Infantry Regiment are both destroyed on the east side of the River. A Further AA Regiment is badly depleted and my forces have taken a Bridge leading to the city.
AGS continue to have a minimal impact on the campaign, I have written to their Commanding Officer suggesting that perhaps they should be more willing to engage enemy forces.

The Russian Anti-Tank Regiment defending Prilvki managed to hold despite ferocious air and land assaults though the Regiment trapped outside the city was destroyed.
An Artillery Regiment has been located supporting the defenders of Lubny but even so my Panzers engaged the Flak Regiment and an Anti-Tank Regiment shielding the city was destroyed.

My forces in the east began the assault on Akhtyrka and hopefully the city will fall tomorrow.

The Russian High Command have resorted to 'human wave' attacks and near Lubny a soviet Conscript Regiment with Artillery support forces the 24th SE Grenadiers back through sheer weight of numbers.

The last remaining Air defences around Kiev have been removed paving the way for my Luftflotte to make their presence known over the city.
Tomorrow I intend for my forces to cross the river and enter the city

Prilvki has been secured at last and the encirclement of Lubny is complete. The Artillery and Flak positions fell to my advancing Panzers and the Soviet conscripts annihilated.

The 32nd Bruckenpioniere Regiment made hard work of seizing Akhtyrka, I must confess it is easy to forget that they are not really outfitted for heavy fighting.

My forces failed to gain a foothold in Kiev but did badly damage the cities stubborn defenders

Lubny also defies my efforts to capture it as once more Soviet Troops prove tenacious in defence. Surrounded and cut off it should only be a matter of time before the city falls.

The detachment in the east rests for resupply and will continue their drive south tomorrow.
Russian High Command obviously senses a weakness in AGS as they once more launch an localised offensive from the fortifications defending Kiev. Though casualties are heavy on both sides the attack is halted.
