hey guys,
i'd like to know do you play with fog of war on or off?
i was playing my first campaign with fog of war off, and i think it's kinda realistic that way because i think that german army had a pretty good idea where it's enemy's units are. it's much harder to play with fog of war, buying recon units and moving them to the right place to see enemy units.
what are your thoughts on that?

I tried it the first time with it on; definitely a lot harder (run into ambushes a lot). The last 2 times I tried, I left it off.
I played Allied General way back when, and I always left it off, so this is kinda what i'm used to. I'm going to try to play more with it on, but for now I'm playing with it off until I get the feel for the game again...

I also prefer to play with it on. One thing you should know about having it off: the AI benefits as well. Sometimes you want to sneak up to a city and stay out of spotting range while you set your units up for the assault. Well, if the AI can see all without spotting, then it can attack your vulnerable transports containing your troops or other valuable equipment, possibly screwing up your assault plans (the AI really likes attacking your artillery for example). Also, the AI's planes will be able to attack units that normally would be hidden in the Fog of War. That's why, personally, I like to play with it on and use it to my advantage. You may think it helps in the early stages, but the AI will use it to it's advantage in later rounds.

I always have it enabled, mainly for three reasons. First, a lot of features in the game wouldn't be experienced with Fog of War set to "off." Second, it is something the PC handles much easier than board games, i.e. it is a strength of playing a PC wargame versus a board game wargame. Finally, it simulates warfare more realistically with in "on."

i'm playing a new campaign ('39-'45) on default (normal) difficulty with the fog of war "on". it's a much different game now. i always thought that with fog of war "on" you're in a disadvantage because AI can see your units, and you can't see it's units. now i see i thought wrong
i think the game is now more challenging, tactically very different, i just hope that i'll get used to the fog of war "on" before much tougher scenarios.
