Slitherine stance on DRM?

Post by Byeohazard »

Just purchased Panzer Corps! I own PGII from GoG.com (wish I didnt lend out my boxed copy...never to be seen again) and enjoy their philosophy on not putting DRM on any of the games they sell. I took a look at the web site here and was impressed with the forums and the general feel of "everything" Coupled with my appreciation of PG II and the general feel of Slitherine I took the plunge into Panzer Corps....I was wondering however what the take on DRM is. It's not always a deal breaker for me, however install limmits and other intrusive measures often turn me away. If Slitherine takes a mild aproach to DRM I will definetly be spending more time here exploring what they have to offer. Thanks in advance for any enlightenment anyone can offer.

There's no DRM on PzC to my knowledge.

Assuming you are talking about Digital Rights Management anyways.

DRM to this non official voice opinion is a term that some use as a catch all often incorrectly.

Anything you use a a safeguard can be claimed to be some form. Is the need of a serial a form? Some would say yes.

I think in the end, it is best said that the Slitherine/Matrix Games approach of requiring a serial, and really nothing else, is a means of ensuring a game is legit, without enforcing anything 'undesirable' on the consumer.

I have no beef with the owners wishing to safeguard their property. They would be idiots if they didn't do something eh.

Mandatory online activations though, and minimum installs and and intrusive background programs being required to run are NOT unintrusive regardless of what perks might be supposedly offered AFTERwards. I don't mind Steam's background updates working automatically to a point, but I wish I had the choice of turning on the system and having the choice to start Steam or not.

I have refused to buy some games I would have bought, all from the owner making the WRONG DRM decision.

You do. Click the icon in the tray at the bottom of the screen, Settings, Interface tab and Run Steam when computer starts.
