Very interesting and no real duplication. Should be a good comp.

See you on Saturday!

I have looked on the Devizes website but am unable to find and information on times for the competition. So what time do we report and when do the games start?

I suggest aiming for a 9am arrive & mill about in typical wargamer fashion, with a circa 9:30 start - should work I think.

I was aiming to get there about 8:30 am so it will give me time to find a sausage and bacon butty somewhere before 9:00 am.

Nik, thanks for your help on the vagueries of the rules and twice calling time just before we were about to be crushed under the heals of our opponents :D.

Also thanks to DDWG for organising the event; Mike and I had a good time with 4 very good games all played in the right spirit. Always a good show.

Interestingly, talking to a coule of trader friends it was noted footfall was down quite a lot, indeed one comment being the 'browsers' at stands were either tournament players or other traders bored and wandering around. Unlucky being the weekend after schools have broken up (give or take) and so many away on holiday or just a consequence of the current economic climate?

Discuss... :P

I would also like to add my thanks to Nik and DDGW for a great competition and weekend wargaming.

I would like to thank the 4 opponents for the great blood baths that occurred with in two cases the diffence between winnig and losing being 1 or 2 AP.

Look forward to next year. Happy with a Biblical theme for next year but would love a chinese theme sometime.

What Bob said.

The cider was especially fine, despite the lurid orange colour

An option for a comp would be something that covers stone age/bronze age. So what we refer to as 'biblical' plus Blood and Gold and the early Empires of the Dragon.

The 'biblical' armies would probably still dominate (too much decent mounted for the B+G boys) but it would be good to give these armies a comp they could take part in. Mighht even tempt me to attend!

The weekend was great except for the Friday meal. Is this the Worlds smallest pineapple ring?

Shooty elite impact foot Aztecs can deal with contemporary opponents handily. I doubt that chariot-dominated Biblical armies would pose much of a problem. (close to 2MU, pelt the chariots with javelins, rerolling 1s and2s, until they charge you or run away)

Realistic? I couldn't possibly say. Definitely satisfying though.

On the whole, I'd prefer not to mix Beagles and Corona though. Stick to the Iron Age.

I was thinking that most 'biblical' comps tend to be dominated by things like Assyrian: superior HCh, decent armoured cavalry and a unit of armoured heavy foot. Mounted plus at impact. Cav and foot up in melee. Can't see that the Aztecs woul be that scary to them.

I think this is a good idea - I'd probably go with it to allow more variety and some less used armies to have an outing.

You could try something radical like less popular armies get 50 more points.
