How to readjust difficult setting in already started campaig

Hi i started as colonel now want to re adjust to a lower level as it now to heavy.
How can i do it?

Otherwise i have to cheat :(...

Alas, difficulty cannot be adjusted in an already started game.

Well of course it should be possible to change saved game file, but it is not one number, because difficulty level is translated into a number of options for game engine and for the AI.

How far are you in the campaign? On what scen are you now?
