The Carthaginians v Bosporans has kicked off with the Bosporans finding themselves on top of a nice hill but with Carthaginians coming at them from everywhere. The Bosporans have taken some Sarmatian allies with them for good cause as you can never have too many lancers. The Carthaginians have brought 3 nellies along for the ride and they seem to be narrowing in on the Bosporan lancers. We're a couple of moves away from impact and hoping my little horde of archers and slings can make a few dents before they reach the hill. Against most players I'd feel pretty comfortable in this terrain..but Eric is not most players.

Carthaginians vs Parthians has started.....Parthians won initiative (so many horse archers must be good for something....) The map is the one with the long lake with steep hills sloping down to it on my right, with a corridor of 4-5 hexes between that and the map edge. A nasty patch of forest with steep hills covers the Parthian right flank, but is unlikely to play a major role.

The Parthians are not as I expected, they have brought Hatran and Arab allies, and are lighter on cataphracts and heavier on archers than I expected. The Carthaginians are well predicted by my opponent - Max Elephants, Spears, Heavy Foot. Will be tricky trying to bring the horse archers to battle!

Cartthaginians have set up on the right side, bottling the corridor, MF around the lake and HF huddling on the higher ground adjacent, with cavalry extending the left flank. Parthian have their Arabs are aiming for the steep hill on their right, the Hatrans for the corridor on their left, and the Parthian cats and archers filling the centre.

Game on!

Great update, thanks. I now know what I'm facing as I haven't had chance to see your setup yet! I'm glad I predicted your setup correctly, although now the question is whether I picked the right troops and disposition to counter it!...Time will tell :D

hi Chris,

the game is set for a 500 points battle, is that right? Wasn't it on a 650 points base, my life is in a big mess at the moment so perhaps I'm wrong, let me know.

Cheers

The Armenians and Parthians are now completely embroiled.
the BPs lost are 11 and 12 respectively the difference being that a greater proportion of the Parthian lost 12 are cataphracts.

The Parthians took maximum cataphracts bringing three allies to the party and these are supported by swarms of LC and LF as expected. The Armenians brought maximum cataphracts with 2 allies - Alans and Romans - and so have fewer units but more shock cavalry (but fewer cats) and a few quality infantry. On the deployment the Armenian cataphracts were concentrated together behind a central low hill with the Parthian cataphracts across the map.
The Parthians used the shoot and scoot approach but the sacrice of 3 Armenian LC units to attack retreating Parthian cataphracts has meant (so far) the Parthian cataphracts in the centre have been contacted by 2 or 3 Armenian Cataphracts at a time and have suffered for it. The remaining Parthian cataphracts and Hatran cataphract camels have now arrived on the flanks - so it is finely poised as we reach stage two and both reach for more tin openers.
