Requests for features
I am an avid PG/PG2 fan and I am greatly enjoying playing Panzer Corps - thank you very much for making this game!
I derive a great deal of enjoyment from renaming/designating my core units and following their progress through the campaigns. In PG2, by the time the campaign was over I usually had 3-4 "corps" comprising 6-8 "divisions" with each one named (e.g. "7th Pz / II PZ") I would like to respectfully ask for some features to help enhance the appreciation of these core units.
1. Pop-up/Floating Unit IDs: I've found it difficult to keep track of the specific units on the main display without clicking each one and then switching my focus to the unit detail section in the right panel. Could you please make it an option to have the unit's name pop-up in a small box on the map view when the mouse cursor hovers over it? Or even better, to have the option of having each unit's name under the unit graphic on the map.
2. Hero Abilities: Panzer General 2 had a random hero system where units had the chance to acquire a hero when they "leveled up." These heroes conferred special abilities to the unit and really made them more interesting and exciting to play with.
Thank you again and great work!
Regards,
Brian

#1. Can you provide a sample for consideration?
Here's the problem:
#2. We do have a hero system, but it's slightly different from PG2, what is your opinion of this? You prefer more 'unique' abilities like giving recon type movement to non-recon units?
Here's the problem:
Where in this image would your request fit?The problem is that the amount of information on the map for each unit is already quite extensive.
Can move, can shoot, city flag, strength plate, fuel condition, ammo condition.
However I do completely agree that leader representation needs to be included in that image, but it's a question of 'where' and will it looks good?

I think vonGekko made a good suggestion. In order to ensure a better overview it would also be great if the units designations/names could be edited
(i.e. "22nd Grenadier Reg." --> "Edelweiß_1").
The game is as addictive as PG was back in the days.
Thx & cheers

Thank you for the reply, Kerensky. Your screen image makes an excellent point - having a permanent label on the units might create too much clutter. A pop-up label when hovering over a unit would still be a great enhancement.
In regards to the hero units - yes it would be great if heroes could impart minor extra abilities or attributes. It could be something simple like +1 hard attack, +1 ground defense, or extra movement points. Some could be unique to unit types, like a tank hero with a "Overrun" ability that gives extra movement if he destroys an enemy unit.
Best regards,
Brian

I'm sorry - I had understood the hero system incorrectly. Thank you for the clarification!Rudankort wrote:Heroes can provide a bonus to attack, defense, initiative, movement, spotting and range. But they do not have special abilities.
I would still love something (like hovering the mouse cursor over a unit or a key you can press and hold) that will show a pop-up box over the unit with the unit's name.
Thanks for the game. I am having a great time playing!
We have it on our todo list to show unit stats with added hero bonuses, but for now you need to hover hero portrait, and then you will see what bonus he gives. It is also shown below the portrait when the hero is obtained.Desertf0x wrote:I've been trying to see the improvements made by heroes somewhere in the stats of the unit, but somehow I can not find it.
Am I missing something ? lol
I'm still for the "pop-up" engagement like in the PG version for the playstation. It would need to be on/off capable, but I think it adds a little bit more stress to each conflict. Plus the animations and explosions were all unique and added more sense of accomplishment and realism to the units.
I'd also like to see the info pane on the right with a hide function. Once you have the hotkeys down and are deep in battle, the extra 1/4 screen viewing would be nice.
Finally, and I feel a little dumb for asking, but can there be a explanation section for the whole battle results, roll dice, etc. screen when using “L” after battle? I’ve got the basic concept down for strength, rugged, etc, but what determines how many dice are rolled? Is a 20-sided like D&D? Is this actually based on how PG worked behind the scenes? Trust me, if I didn’t know it was there, I wouldn’t even question it, but you guys brought it up. Before I thought it was just “gypsy magic”…….which the SS tried to eliminate….
