North African supply

Post by Solaristics »

I'm in a game at the moment and I have complete supremacy at sea as the Allies in the Med, but the Axis have gone all out on land in North Africa and are pushing hard. Is there any way I can choke off Axis supply with my navy, e.g. blockading North African ports?

Also, I haven't done the exact calculations (and it is my first game), but isn't it quicker to go through Gibraltar to get troops to Suez than taking the transport loop from the south Atlantic? If yes, then would you only ever use the Suez route when Gibraltar has fallen or you were worried about interdiction from the Axis navy in the Med?

You can't choke off Axis supply beyond the limits already imposed. As long as they haven't captured any additional ports and you have the minimum capital ships (3) in the Med that provides the limit in supply for the Axis. They shouldn't be able to have more than a couple of german air units and ground units unless they have captured additional ports, especially, Malta or Gibralter. Read the section on Axis North African supply limits in the manual.

Safest way to reinforce in NA is through persian gulf and then rail to the front in my opinion.

Thanks for the reply. He has a lot of Italian air and armour, and about 5 German units (mech, tac, ftr, arm and inf). He didn't do Barbarossa OR Sealion so I expect he has a huge stockpile of resources he is using to fund the oversupply situation he is in. It is our first game - but we are both 35 years vets of WW2 grand strategy games - so I guess he is trying out something different.

Anyway, Torch is under way, and the Ruskies have just declared war, and I've managed to just stop him before the Canal, so I think he's shot his bolt. The Battle of Britain, which has been going on for over 18 months now is starting to swing in my favour as I notice he isn't replacing losses.

The Italian units cost less for supply so that may be ok for your opponent. But it isn't really enough to force the Suez if you have to FTR's. If you've stopped him thus far and the Russians are coming in the tide should turn soon. If you reinforce now through Persia you should be able to force him back as he is otherwise engaged.
