I find that it is difficult regardless of the difficulty of the game itself, to save France from surrender. But I like to form a line of Corps along the Somme with the BEF (1 Mech, and 1 Corps), usually you can shoot out 1 Corps every turn for the French so the building of a stiff defensive line is not too difficult.
In a recent game I had the line and some extra PP and built a Mech which i sent to Tunisia. From there I launched a french offensive and took Tripoli from the Italians with support of the French and Royal Navys. Of course in the end I could have used this Mech in the Western front instead of an adventure into Africa as my line on the Somme collapsed.
If it becomes clear that France is about to crumble I like to send the BEF forces to port cities (Brest and/or Marseilles). Once France surrenders you'll have a couple of turns of valuable PP before the Germans push you out.

Im playing a game where the guy abandoned the maginot line and bought another leader, put them both on the motorised and formed a line behind the paris river, then took a british motorised and put a leader on it and put it on the coastal city, interesting tactic didn't work but he was able to hold paris until about july 1940. France is pretty much a lost cause if you ask me.
France suffers HUGE moral penalty after germans capture Brussels.
And their troops are not great on their own. So only chance to make it longer is to delay fall of Brussels by any means. (Ofcourse its not possible if german player go for sietzkrieg + 1 turn conquest of Belgium). Once Brussels falls, you left with yellow-orange troops and degraded airpower.
Any idea of counterattack with so low morale is pretty bad - you will just kill your own units, doing german's job.
So best plan seems to form solid formation of garrisons and corps units, at river lines, so germans will be able to attack each unit from only 2-3 sides, and sometimes fail to destroy it.
As long as germans fail to destroy unit, they waste time, delaying action works.
Sending large BEF is not so attracting any more, since this troops will suffer all the same huge morale loss, unless you send them after Belgium surrenders.

As Allied player I buy in most cases General Huntzinger as a second leader for the French and place him in command of an INF Corps entrenched in Paris. Huntzinger gives a +1 defense bonus and a second French commander allows to use the free commander Gamelin more aggressively on the frontlines. After the collapse of the French line General Huntzinger will boost the defense of Paris significantly. From my experience it really helps to give the defenders one more round to hold Paris.
