A few questions

Post by WabeWalker »

1) It astonishes me how many independent studios release titles that don't support my monitor's native resolution, which is 2560x1440. So yes or no?

2) Is there a grid overlay for the tiles on the map? So far, I've seen no screenshot with a grid on it? Not a deal breaker, but I always played PG with the grid on.

3) I adored Panzer General for the simplicity of its gameplay and the complexity of its strategy. PG was said by some (at the time) to be a gateway game, which would lead many of us to 'deeper' war-games. Well, I tried playing some of those 'deeper' war-games, and actually they wern't any deeper at all - they were just much more fussy, and downright boring to play. What I want to know is: Is Panzer Corps a true rock, papers, scissors, 'beer and pretzels' war game, a la Panzer General, or are the developers of this title just a bunch of hopeless dreamers whose delusions of grandeur have tinted their glasses in a rose colored fashion?

4) Is there 360 controller support?

(note: one of my questions might be a joke. I'm not saying which one though)

Thank you.

1) I'm pretty sure it supports any resolution your video card throws at it, but I'll let someone else confirm this.

2) We have no grid, subtle grid and strong grid options.

3) Both

4) No, but we're looking at Kinect controls.

1) I've a 19' 5:4 screen monitor. In my case the maximum resolution 2048x1536 (the maximum my graphic card can display)

2) Take a look here, somewhere in that thread there are two screens with strong and subtle hexes.

3) This is the joke, right?

4) No but it supports TrackIR and they are looking of course for Kinect support.

I'm getting my order in on this then.

I've been waiting for the Panzer General series to be resurrected for well over a decade now. The original game nearly cost me my education, because I was in university at the time (I'm now the CEO of Sony), and I was spending way, way, way, way, way, way, way, way, way, way, way, way, way, way, way too much time playing it.

If you guys over there at... Slitherine is it? (way to rip off JK Rowling)... actually pulled this one off, then I might have to come over there and kiss you people. My hopes are up at the moment. A few other parts of my body are also up, but I'll keep that to myself for now.

Lame jokes aside, I can remember winning one of the battles in Panzer General by moving my very last unit into the very last city on my very last turn - and I did so using every single movement point that was available to that unit. It was such a huge feeling of accomplishment, and it's amazing that after nearly twenty years I can still remember that one turn. To me, that's what Panzer General was all about. Just moving those pieces across the board in a cunning fashion, never quite knowing what was going to happen next. Of course, if you're a master strategist, like myself, then knowing what's going to happen next is just part of your normal brain function, but I realize that not everyone has such gifts.

I'll be back to let you know what I think about the game next week. I gotta go now, because I've got about five females fighting over me.

Ciao, babes.

*waits for the reaction when you try this with PzC only to discover that after you capture the city on your very last turn the AI still gets to move on it's very last turn and try to take it back*

Really a non-issue question, but how does the game engine determine when to use the camo graphics vs the "factory grey" ones? Season? Scenareo date? Toggle camo on off button? (which would be real cool)

Camo is only used by Elite units, you will have to earn them first.

It's beginning to look like these guys are true PG enthusiasts and that they've enhanced the PG experience in many ways.

I am really really excited about this.
