English campaign lance upgrade, found it!

Having worked through (i think) all the battles in the English campaign and not been given the lance (knights) i read that it should be available after Poiters, and it is.

The secret seems to be to fight Poiters immediately it becomes available (after Mauron). I had previously fought "surrounded" and "raid the heartland" before Poiters and got the armour upgrade on Poiters but no lance. Note, the lance is announced as weapon upgrade on the end of battle screen.
