Ok - I was asked to provide proof and I have it. I just saw not one but THREE units in my games go from normal morale state to Routed morale state - a 3 morale state loss - in one attack.
See the latest turn I just did for the Hydaspes game. Early on I attacked a unit and it was at normal morale state. The attack causes it to rout. It was NOT attacked from the rear.
This also happened in another game in my queue with Nano1492 the same thing happened. After I moved my left flank (lots of infantry and so on) I then moved my center. I attacked a unit with a chariot and it routed from normal morale state.
And honestly, the new rear attack rule stinks too. It is now just a rout fest all over the map in this game. I prefer the old slugfests we used to have.

Units will go straight from "steady" to "rout" if they pass their auto-rout level though. So you could have an "average" HF spear unit "steady" at 57% strength that comes into melee and then loses 3% - it will rout even if it inflicts larger losses on its opponent because its own strength has fallen below 55%. Might that explain what you are seeing?

The next time you see that happen , just hover over the unit immedietly after it routs and see what % is left BEFORE you hit end turn(where they take additional casualties during the rout phase) This way you can rule out whether the rout was from casualties or a bug...Old_Warrior wrote:My opponent says the unit had lost 1/3 of its strength. It was an Average unit. The melee result was probably not high enough to cause it to go below the auto rout level IMHO. But you would have to see the game in order to determine that.
