Neutralized?

Post by El_Condoro »

When using a strategic bomber against infatry in a city hex I have seen the message 'Neutralized' and the hex flag goes blank for that turn. What does this mean and what effect does it have in the game?

I've seen the same thing on airfields. I think it might mean the city/airfield becomes neutral (provides no supply/repair)?

I just did a search for 'neutralized' in the manual - nothing.
On the manual, why do I need to find it in the file system, instead of from the game, or at least from the Start bar?

A neutralized hex no longer "belongs" to either side. It must be re-occupied by the previous owner (or captured by the opponent) and it will start functioning normally at that point. Until then, it offers no supply, reinforcements, deployment ability, etc.

Turns the flag into a neutral one. If an enemy unit isn't camped on the hex, they do not regain it during their turn, and cannot buy from it.
If there is an enemy camped on it, they will regain control during their turn, but they cannot buy from that hex because of the turn delay from capturing to purchasing units at a captured location.

It doesn't seem to be of much use in a game unless the occupying unit is destroyed because it reverts back to owned (I think at the start of the next turn but it may even be earlier - will have to check).

The prevention of deployment is very important.

Plus if it set up a a source of supply then it will not generate until captured and held for one turn.

(I forgot to mention that my definition was based on an unoccupied hex, sorry! )

Ah-ha. Now that makes sense and is a useful ability. Thanks.

About the manual, read the description of strategic bombers, it mentions this trait, but maybe in different words.

Just for reference, from the manual:
STRATEGIC BOMBER
Strategic bombers perform bombing raids from great heights and so are much
less precise than tactical bombers. Their attacks rarely result in direct kills of
enemy strength, but give a lot of other benefits: they cause heavy suppression of
enemy troops and destroy their fuel and ammo reserves, thus making them easy targets for
other units. Strategic bombers are useful against any ground targets and are usually much
less vulnerable to ground anti-air systems (although they still must fear enemy fighters). They
are also effective against enemy ships. When used against enemy cities or airfields, strategic
bombers can destroy their capacity to supply enemy units and produce new ones.
Any reason the manual is so 'difficult' to get to?

Manual should be available via Start menu already, and I have a word from Slitherine that in the released version a link should be added in the Launcher too.

It's not on my Start Menu, but that's good news about the launcher. Still it would be even more useful if it could be accessed from within the game at any point during a turn. That way Alt-Tab issues (if they occur) will be prevented.

No, it isn't. The Library has parts of the manual but not the whole manual.
