Invasion Australia (June 1941)

Post by El_Condoro »

This is my first attempt at a PzC scenario, so I went as far away from historical as you can get - all the way to Australia.

If you like late-war scenarios, where King Tigers duel toe-to-toe with M26s and IS-IIs, this is *not* the scenario for you. Early war equipment, difficult terrain, infantry and artillery are keys. There are also some strategic decisions to be made. Anyway, I'd be interested in your feedback.

I will see how it goes in multiplayer and put a couple of challenges out there.

Scenario introduction: (This is the sort of thing I would love to see made available to players in any turn and at will)

Low starting forces, but lots of prestige to play with, high mystery formula is always a good choice.
HMS Prince of Wales seems to be a Heavy Cruiser. (It was a King George V class BB)

You have one broken trigger.
Game looks at zone 3 flag to grant Allied player 500 prestige, but no flag exists on zone 3. Since no starting flag exists there, the flag can never changed to Allied, and the trigger will never fire. Drop a German flag on zone 3 or change the trigger to say number of Allied UNITS in zone 3 = 1.

I really like your idea of dropping little 'station' overlays all over the place to create villages and farm houses. I'm going to have to steal that idea from now on.

Thanks, and for the heads-up. Zone 3 fixed by adding a German flag. I've changed HMS P of Wales to sBB but on 8 strength rather than 10 (Tirpitz should remain king of the seas - even if it was historically in the Baltic at the time).

I had all sorts of problems with overlays, including the stations. Whenever the G key was pressed to generate the terrain the overlays were removed. Very annoying and something I hope can be fixed.

So far, it has been a fun scenario.

That will most likely never be fixed, because that's how 'G' works. 'G' automatically generates all terrain based on the true tile of the hex. It's a complicated relationship between what the terrain actually is and what it appears to be.

I theory, it is possible to build an entire map without ever pressing 'G'.

Perhaps one day 'G' can be configured to not overwrite manually placed overlays, but this is not as good idea as it sounds. Many people have been playing overlays manually thinking they are placing terrain. If 'G' does not overwrite their mistake, they will never know or learn what they are doing wrong.

Once your basic map is complete, which is what 'G' is very handy for doing, you can start to polish it and add visual improvements, which 'G' is very poor at handling.

Yeah, I think my next map will be easier and cause less headaches/hair loss by not putting overlays in place until the very end (even after playtesting)
