Beta Impressions

Post by jkile »

:o First, thanks for the beta test!!!! Really, I never been invited before. I have been gaming for 20+ yrs.

First Impression: If you goal was to bring back PG atmosphere, YOU nailed it!!! Nice job. From, downloading, to install, and &
onnward to launching, all working fine. I have a horse of a machine w/ Navidea video card, 8 GB of ram, ect.

Five Minutes: Could not wait to keep going!!! Tutorial is one of best seen!!

15 Minutes: This is great!! I am beginning to think it really is from SSI! I have an old machine w/XP, where I have both PG's installed & play
every few months.

1 Hr: Interface works fine, just minor difference to get use to!! Gameplay is great. I went through tutorial & have played the 1939 Camp. 'til,
Greece senario, where, I could only deploy about 1/2 of units; no air allowed, and was getting hammered by AI's airforce. So gave up there
last nite(Also my dog was howling, way pass her nitely walk!!). Yes, way late. Is this a bug in Greece(Balkins)?????

Other Impressions: I recently Battlefield Academy and was impressed with that, but Panzer Corps is much better. I am going make some combat
results critisims. I think Artillery are way to strong in game; for it to take 4-6 units to destroy one is not very realistic. These units would run if(real warfare) if threaten at all!! They( and anti-tank units vs infantry) should be destroy almost by overrun, say by a tank(tank vs artillery). In reality
there was not alot that could be done to entrench them very much. AND in light of that, I think there game entrenchment should be caped vey low, 2-3at most! Speaking of entrenchment, AI is given( I say agian GIVEN) way to much!!! A unit that moves, attacts you, and on next turn has 3-4 entrenchment is not right. Entrenchment should only occur, if no movement, no adjacient enemies, and no artillery or air attack. AND it should occur
at the same rate for player or AI(one unit of entren. per/turn?!) These units were very(10 verys) weak against infantry or tank units. Please adjust sometime in future. I'd also like to see the players' units have zones of control. It's very frustrating to do your best to hide & protect your fragile units only to have AI zig-zag through your lines & kill if not damage emensely your unit. If my units can only move on hex at a time adjacient, then AI same.
You could similate frigility of these units(artiilery/anti-tanks) by giving them an offensive(10) value AND a defensive value(3-4). It's just very frustrating having to spend 3-4 turns, 3-4 units, chasing one of these minor units across the board. And I'd like to see a disorganised implimented
where a unit can't fire next tun, if it has just lost 50% or more strength in previous. This seems very logical to me. One last gameplay comment, infantry, the early years of the WWII sim., have to much attacking power against tanks. Tanks came out of WWI with the specific duty, to attack
infantry, whether dug in or not!! AND German tanks were initially made for this exact miision. If an infantry is dug in AND has some additive weapon, then it can damage a tank modestly. If not, then it's a mexican standoff with neither being able to injure eiither much. Later on in the campaigns, in response to so much tanks, infantry were equiped with arms that could do some serious damage. An infrantry caught out in open & not entrenched should be annilated by a tank, even later on, if it's not properly equipped!!!

Well, this my 2 cents. I am a miltary history junky and when I see games based on specific warfare, I get very annoyed at gameplay junk. All game
developers & publishers swear the computer doesn't cheat!!!(ha-ha). But you hardly ever see them running into ambushes, which makes me think
they see the whole board!!! Listen, this has been a complaint of alot of us thru, the years, and it seems like one of the things developers have not been willing to address very well. I've rambled a lot, and my dog's howling again, so I'll finish, with this. You have captured that genre of games, and to with just some tweaking, it could be the best. I give you 7-8 out of 10 with the Beta, and hope the final will approach "10" with baited breath.

Thanks again for your consideration and the opportunity to participate.

my first action

Post by fdfirebiz »

i agree with the other testers .well after all these years waiting for a great game like this to finally top and exceed panzer general great work crisp interface and movement details wonderful. well i have a few suggestions. after playing the first campaign in poland the graphics are excellent and crisp. but i wish you can zoom in more its either to far out all the way or only one zoom level when i used my scroll wheel to zoom in i was dissapointed to just one zoom level in. like the old panzer general game you were closer in to the action it seems to far away to appreciate all the great detail of the units and combat. alsos can you make the text size bigger for in game stats etc. also whats with the polish cavalry wiping out my tanks and ground troops. lets face it guys there was no way horse cavalry can beat out a tank toe to toe. when i attacked the 8th polish cavalry in the open i lost 4 points while the 8th polish cavalry lost 1 next they charged my tank and knocked it out of the battle. lets make the cavalry more a soft target. and finally make the city names be on the map it is so much easier to view the objective cities on the map. like warsaw have the name displayed next to the city or like hit the space bar to have it pop up. these would be excellent additions to these wonderful game. i think there important to the overall pleasure of playing this addictive game.
