Challenge tourney reports?

Post by babyshark »

Talk to us, people. How did it go this past weekend? Give us some battle reports so we can get our enthusiasm up. What was learned?

Alas in the end there was no tournament :( Due to the late announcement, the fact a lot of the playtesters were already booked in for the DBM competition and a delay to the next revision of the beta rules the event was cancelled.

I did manage a game with Auybid Egyptian against later Crusaders and watched in horror as my arrows kept on bouncing off the Crusaders armour and their crossbow bolts ripped my Ghilmen from their saddles. The final straw was when the battlegroup of Ghilmen with my commander in chief were defeated by some Turcopoles. It could have gone the other way, I made some mistakes and they cost me dear.

It was a good game, it demonstrated that the recent slight reduction in the power of mounted shooting looks to have ballanced things out more and despite the fact it was my opponents first game of AoW the game completed in less than four hours even with breaks to explain what was going on to bystanders and ohter interested parties and do competition organiser things.

I suspect there will be another comp soon but not until the latest incarnation of the rules is released.

Pity. Although it is nice to see that rumors of the death of DBM are not entirely true. We all look forward to reports from the next event. Perhaps a little taste for the American audience at Historicon?

I have wondered about that. From the battle reports I have read in this forum it has appeared that mounted archery was pretty much the way to go. I guess there is something to this playtesting thing after all!
