A friend with classical indian is thinking of expanding into the malay/thai/khmer to get to an elephant themesd army.
Currently the elephants generally do very poorly vs almost everything when relied up to win games (even vs superior knights). The deaths rolls are the killer.
Are there any/many changes to elephants underconsideration boosting the pachyderms?

As has already been revealed on this forum they are been playtested at the moment with 3d in impact. Significantly better but still very brittle (as they probably should be).
I would urge your friend to consider Malay. You cant have quite as many elephants but the foot arent a total joke (IF/SW should pair up nicely with elephants) and you can get a couple of units of LH.

That's the trouble isn't it? If you change one thing to make a small unit like elephants better, it may dramatically alter the game balance.

Well i am still new to FOG and have the max no of Elephants in my Khmer army, like reality they are not unstoppable killing machines but if well supported by the Spearmen and archers can be devastating, i use several blocks of 2xBgs of Ele each and each group supported by Sp and Bw and Sk and it seems to work real well so far ^^.
I personally do not think they are underpowered but they could so easliy be made to be overpowered.
