Axis Turn 34, June 22nd 1941

All quiet in North Africa as the Italian Fleet limps away.

Image

The Soviets fall back and give me ground. I take free ground, knowing that Plaid has something nasty up his sleeve waiting for me. I have slowed down at the Dneiper for fear that I was getting too overextended. I have to get my infantry up. I'm pushing toward Moscow, but doubt I can take it. Campaign in the south is going well. I need to get an overall goal for this campaign.

Africa quiets down. I'm not sure how I'm going to proceed down here. It would be nice to have Rommel in Russia right now, as I was advised...

You can always remove Rommel and replace him with a lower value Commander.

Keeping the advance going. Plaid is waiting I'm quite sure. He has sealed off the Crimea. I think I would ignore that at my own risk. I have a feeling he would reinforce it and launch a counter attack in the rear from there. Its a diversion, but I think I must go for it. Gomel and Kiev fall. If Konev stays in Kharkov, I will try to wound him. I'm running out of summer though. Russian Partisans take an undefended city.

@ schno005, true enough. I was strongly advised not to waste high quality German troops there. I would like those Corps in Russia right now....Living and learning

In 2.0 I have learnt the hard way that you must garrison all Soviet cities or you risk losing them to popping partisans.

the Russians are very weak in 41 until the Siberian reserves and winter - they can't really attack you, they might threaten, but they are to weak

Yes they do, but they can't repair or regain efficiency unless they get supply from a city or surface ship. The supply level 1 means they won't lose a step per turn.

Axis Turn 38, September 10th, 1941

Plaid continues to give ground as the German advance continues.

North: I would like to isolate and possible capture Leningrad. I will have to break through strong resistance to do so.
Image

Center: I have decided to continue the advance and seize Byransk and Smolensk.
Image

South: In the South, General Konev was left in Kharkov. I had only Italians close enough to attack. So although coming close, I was not able to wound him.
Image

Uboats spot the Murmansk convoy. That is where I am concentrating my Uboats.

Axis Turn 39, September 30th, 1941

In this turn, Plaid evacuates Konev's HQ and reinforces Kharkov. An Italian counterattack with heavy air support takes the city. I have run into Plaid's defensive line along the whole frontat last. It looks rather formidable. Uboats successfully sink the Murmansk convoy. He is escorting his British convoys primarily. I will take the free hunting.

Still quiet in Egypt, but I am going to make another go of it, to try to put some kind of pressure on the Brits.

I have fallen really behind in my writing, so I will do quick updates to catch up.

Axis Turn 40, October 20th, 1941

Bad weather strikes..... I have run into Plaids lines all along the Russian Front. For now, I have been able to hold Kharkov despite his repeated attempts to take it back. In Africa, a joint German and Italian attack damages his Australians, but not enough.

Axis Turn 42-43, November 29th through December 19th, 1940

Plaid has taken Kharkov, even after I reinforced it with a Panzer Grenadier. I am very worried about my line collapsing between Kursk and Kharkov.
Image

My attempts to plug the hole are not effective, but I rush Panzers to the East of Kiev to block the advance. Since all his efforts seem to be focused here, I am able to shift some forces.

Africa: Looking very troubling. Plaid has total Air superiority, and a superior land force. I was warned about this.

The ONLY thing going well right now is the Battle of the Atlantic. Wolfpacks have been very effective.

Axis Turn 44, January 8th, 1942

Plaid is attacking in force in the south. I have been unable to stop him. I have ordered a general retreat to the Dneiper, but the weather slows down my movement. Hurry up spring. I have moved more Armor under Guderian near Gomel to address the Northern end of the breakthrough.

Image

Africa has become a route and I am in full retreat. I will probably run all the way to Tripoli and move into Tunisia, if the Americans conduct Operation Torch. No Guarantee they will. I suspect they might though. My impression of Plaid is he is quiet a traditionalist. Of course I could be totally wrong

Image

UBoat hunting is going well. What you may ask is that British convoy doing there???? Well, a funny bug happened. The turn before it moved into Brest harbor and was destroyed. Very nice of those sailors to settle into a German occupied port. Talk about a bad Navigator. "This must be England!!!" I must treat them to a Schnitzel and Sauerkraut Dinner, before moving them off to a Stalag.

I think I have stabilized the line in the South, but at a terrible cost!
Image

The Center/North is quiet, thankfully, since I had to move a lot of those units to the South.

Plaid has grown tired of giving my Uboats free hunting in the North Atlantic. :(

Axis Turn 46, February 17th, 1942

Plaid destroyed General Guderian's Panzer Korps. A grievous loss to me. My counterattack destroys one of his Tank Corps and Damages another. I have made it though winter, and although I had to give ground, I am more or less intact and ready to assume a Spring offensive. Plaid has mostly stopped his attacks this turn.
Image

Still quiet in the North. I have moved Model to assume command of Army Group Center.

Axis turns 47 and 48, March 29th, 1942

Mercifully, the severe winter has come to an end. I have survived Plaid's winter offensive. I took losses and had a serious worry of a breakthrough, but the line held. I am ready to regain the offensive, albeit against a much stronger USSR. Plaid has withdrawn his Soviets and they are largely intact. If find him frustratingly good about preserving his fighting force. I know I am only playing for time and my goal is to hold Berlin.

Africa has become a route. I was contemplating taking a stand in Tunisia, if a Operation Torch is launched, but I am thinking seriously about just abandoning Africa altogether. Especially before the RN gets to Tripoli. I may be too late already.

In the Atlantic, he has moved his escorts to guard the Murmansk convoy, so I will have to shift to the Western convoys for a while.

What is more scary is I have no idea where the Americans are. He could really just walk right into France right now. Like the real Germans, I have to start thinking seriously about the west, as I have no front line units there right now. Oh the worries of a 2 front war....

May i suggest that during your next russian winter put all your fighters on zzz to save them in the east. They are fighting with a heavy penalty during winter and that will cost you a lot of PPs to repair that can be used on other things.

Another way to not take so much casualties is to withdraw somewhat on the eastern front just before winter arrives. If timed correctly the Red army won´t be able to catch up and do any significant damage. This only works if you have got ground to give and not key objectives that you need to fight over. If you got a solid defence line behind a river, could work to....
