FoG Tutorial Game or Video for Newbies?

Post by dugroz »

Hi Guys,

I'm a late comer to the FoG party here. Just got the rule book recently and really like it! (A couple army supplement books, too!)

I've read thru the rules and "get" most of it, but it can be a little overwhelming. I'd like to see a walkthru game, or tutorial video or something to help me mentally put it all together. There are no historical gaming clubs in my area that I can find (I'm quite busy with young kids at home anyway, so can't usually go to my local gaming store anyhow), so I will be mostly doing solo gaming and/or teaching my friends how to play FoG - hopefully.

Point being, I would really like to see a video of a sample game or something like that. (Even like a good, basic PDF walkthru with pictures or diagrams) I searched YouTube and was surprised to not find anything like that (one video came close, but was incomplete). With Warhammer, there are a lot of video battle reports - I've even done some - and I'd like to see the FoG equivalent.

Does anyone know of such a thing? If so, could you point me in the right direction? Thanks! 8)

PS - In case you are curious, I did record my initial impressions of the FoG rulebook on my blog as a video commentary. You can see it at:

or directly on my YouTube channel - I am also "dugroz" on YouTube (just search for it).

I haven't watched all of this but it's a basic guide to the game. There are 3 videos, each 9-10 mins long.

Where are you located? There might be someone close who can help you/fix you up with a game.

That video is the one that I found (the one that was "incomplete"). They talk about some strategy, but not too much about game mechanics.

I added my location to the profile (near Des Moines, IA, USA). Would still like to hear more!

Army list notes, auctions, illustrated battle reports, videos, post-game analysis by Hannibal himself? You want the Mad Axeman site, from the fevered imagination of Tim Porter

.. an early report, with useful tips ...

.. a more recent one, with live commentary from Garibaldi and Napoleon on YouTube

If you want to make the drive to St. Paul MN, there is a day of FOG gaming at The Source Comics and Games beginning at 10:00am Saturday June 18th. Beginners welcome and loaner armies available.

Another Twin Cities opportunity is June 25th at the Coon Rapids VFW beginning at 10:00am and running until we drop. This is part of the Quarterly Re-Con miniature gaming day. It is $7.00 at the door.
