Bedouin Dynasties- terrain types

Post by andy816 »

Please can i have the terrain types for the Bedouin Dynasties, which i will be using in my next practice game on Tuesday. We are going to have a go at massed Bow mounted (Huns) against massed impact mounted (Bedouin which are of the non Hamdanid or Uqaylid variety).

cheers

Andy

Lest Richard doesn't have chance to post the official version:

Agri (representing near water/oases) and Desert (the rest)

Try that for the game if RBS can't post the official one (which may add the rough/hilly one perhaps for the mountainous aras neare the desert)

Agricultural, Developed, Hilly, Steppes

(Steppes = the Desert Margin. The Dynastic Bedouin had nothing to defend in the desert, so no reason to fight there)

This does beg the question "Who did have anything to defend in the desert, so why have it as a terrain type?"

I would postulate that the Bedouin might choose to intercept an invader in the desert en route to something worth defending. Or, laden with booty after a raid, they might be caught by pursuers in the desert.

An Oasis may be Agricultural, but if in the middle of a desert, it could still have sand dunes nearby. The same applies to desert-margin "Steppe". I'm not sure the terrain "Soft sand and some low sand dunes" really exists except at the beach. All the dune fields I've been in had hard ground between the dunes. Generally the sand acculumlates in the dunes and the sand in the spaces between has all blown into the dunes. I wonder if "Sand Dune" should be a terrain type, treated as a hill, difficult for most, rough for camels.

Having said that, what I saw of Kuwait/southern Iraq would be best described as "Steppe" where it was not agricultural or urban, apart from some swampy areas.
