Random number generator damage

Post by Razz1 »

The randomness of damage really hurts the Allies in every scenario/Campaign/MP game I have played.

While Allies are close to being balance...... they are the underdogs.

They need to use mass attacks and strategy to win. More so than the Axis or Russians.

When they finally get a chance to attack with an advantage they usually have two or three units.

The Random damage always appears and changes the odds form a positive outcome to very little damge. Sometimes they inflict no damage.

So the question is: How can you use strategy to move in your units as Allies, taking a small risk to exposure, attack with odds of 4 losses to enemy and 1 for you but fail most of the time.

Now due to the bad results your exposure to counter attack is overwhelming. This results in losses for you as the Allies.

so as Allies you end up playing a defensive role over 90% of the time because: When you attack you have a 75% chance of failure at the odds shown.

While random damage happens when playing Russia or Germany.. They can easily overcome this as their units are far supperior in defense and offensive power. Also, it appears through several games that random damage happens more often to the Allies. This may not be the case, but when it occurs... it is devastating to the Allies.

I suggest we tone this down. If possible tone it down for the British American French Belgiums etc..

I suggest all beta testers watch for this. Use your careful eyes and report back what you see.

I can confirm this in the scenarios I've been playing with Razz. It does seem that the Allies can get some really off-the-wall results. Not seeing this as much on the Axis side. At the very least it makes planning attacks more difficult since the combat results predictor can't be trusted. I'll watch all my games to see if this is constant or just bad luck...

Anecdotal but may be support for the OP's claim. In a game of Urban Warfare one of my Fireflies attacked; the AI showed the attack would do 3 (4? can't remember exactly) points of damage - it ended up *taking* 7 points of damage! There was no supporting artillery fire.

These sort of wild results typically happen to low armored units, and rarely to high armored units.

Attack a King Tiger and if you see 2 kills, you will more often see it end up being 1 kill instead of 3.
Attack a Crusader III and if you see 4 kills, you will more often see it end up being 5+ kills instead of 3 or less.

Does the AI combat odds calculator take everyting the player can see into account? What I mean is, does it account for the experience of attacker and defender as well as attack and defense factors? Does it account for (known) supporting artillery? Terrain etc?
