Bombs

Post by jonphilp »

Hi,

After a stunning victory of early Ming over the Italian Wars French (1512 at 1250 pts) a rematch is on its way. I am looking to use the Gansidui as light foot using bombs. Am I correct that Bombs always hit at the No Advantage POA ie on a minimum score to hit of 4. Hopefully they may be irritant to the Swiss Keils.

At least this game answered my earlier question of how you stop Swiss kiels. Just use bow/crossbow medium foot in the open and a player who only rolls 5's and 6's and job done

That said the keils were oh so slowly grinding down the opposition but, as I have noticed in other AAR involving the Swiss, the rest of the army falls apart.

I would concur Jon that bombs are on a neutral POA but if you will use exotic weapons(and frankly you don't need them) I will have to reply with a volley of characteristic Swiss weapons, cuckoo clocks and chocolate!!!

Hi Timmy ,

Vespasian did use the Italian wars French army list. What he discovered was that the French are an expensive army ( 2 Swiss & 1 French kiel), although at the points total (1250) he did have a balanced force . The French points total resulted in an opposing Northern Ming army of 26 battlegroups including 5 artillery battlegroups. The Swiss Kiels got into action and were slowly grinding down their opposing battlegroups but the Gendarmes were being held up by the Ming Cavalry . When the French right flank broke it was game over. Also quite a few Ming battlegroups had not engaged so I had a 2nd & 3rd line to take on the Swiss when they broke my engaged units. It was a very enjoyable game . I did have a fellow general to help move my troops , it was his generalship broke the French . FOGR is producing a lot of very interesting games even when using non historical opponents although this game was set in the same time frame. As for the Ming a rematch is underway with the French whilst they wait for the Japanese to invade Korea.

We wait with interest for Vespasian to finish his Spanish Italian Wars Tarstamara army . I know he does not hold out much hope for the Colunels Foot against the Kiels but it will be interesting to see the opposing battlegroup counts. The kiels used in our game were Grand Battle groups which are heavy on the points but close to the historical deployment of the period. I must admit I expect to face smaller more numerous Kiels in future games. What we are finding in our club games is that we really are having to think about the types of units we deploy and how we use them. Already in a historical TYW refight we are questioning the accepted version of the battle and the role of certain named units in the battle. In my mind this shows that FOGR is a great rule set. Lets hope FOGA v2 is to a similar standard.
