Base sizes and figures per base are listed in this thread:

But if it's not a state secret I wouldn't mind knowing the notional troop scales per base to be prepared for the release of FoGN. As it's a regimental game I'm guessing:
400-600 per infantry base
300-400 per cavalry base
6-8 guns per artillery base
Yes / No?

Re: Notional Troop Scales
Must be a secret only to be revealed in publication. Oh well, didn't need to start re-basing today.shadowdragon wrote:Base sizes and figures per base are listed in this thread:

Thanks, that's helpful to those Napoleonic players that like to, for example, own the entire Brunswick, Westphalian or Saxon army.terrys wrote:Troops scales are as follows:
Infantry base (8 figures) = 450 men approx. (4 or 6 bases per unit)
Cavalry base (3 figures = 175 men approx. (4 or 6 bases per unit)
Artillery base = 6-8 guns approx. (2 or 3 bases per unit)
There's a range associated with each base, but the above is about average.

One additional question - last one, honest - to do with the representation of skirmishers. Will they be explicitly represented? So, if light infantry regiment breaks down into skirmish formation, would we need duplicates to represent the regiment? (okay, that was 2 questions)
Well it's sort of half & half.....One additional question - last one, honest - to do with the representation of skirmishers. Will they be explicitly represented? For a unit of light foot in tactical formation we use 2 stands of 'normal' bases (of 8 figures) plus 2 stands of skirmisher bases (of 4 figures). However we also allow them to deploy fully in skirmish formation with all 4 bases of skirmishers. This means that for a single unit of light infantry you need 6 bases (2 normal and 4 skirmisher) - using the same number of figures as you would for a unit of line.....Although I sometimes only put 3 figures on a skirmisher base.
You don't really need this many bases really though, because it's rare to have all your light infantry in skirmish order at the same time.
We represent additional skirmisher capabilities by allowing a single base of a unit to be replaced by a base of skirmishers - An example of this would be where a company of riflemen is attached to a larger formation in the British army.

Thanks, Terry. I've got lots of regular (non-skirmish stuff) to re-base, so I'm sure the rules and first set of army lists will be out by the time I get to basing skirmishers.terrys wrote:Well it's sort of half & half.....One additional question - last one, honest - to do with the representation of skirmishers. In the last month I've played a couple of other rules and, after FoGAM and FoGR....ummm, not what I want. So you've got me eagerly anticipating FoGN.
