Three Newbie Questions - Please Help

Post by Aufbach »

Hello everyone. I've recently started playing MH CEAW and have really enjoyed it so far. However, I have two issues and a question that hopefully someone can help me with.

1. In the Introduction screen, there is no "Fog of War" box. The words "Fox of War" are present, but there is no way for me to select this option. Thoughts?
2. I've only played the tutorial mode, but when I disembark a unit from a transport, the transport disappears and does not return. Is this normal?
3. Where can you see what the current weather is? I've looked all over the screen, but can't find where it's shown.

Sorry if these questions have been answered elsewhere. I searched the forums and couldn't find answers.

Thanks for your help,
Aufbach

The tutorial mode doesn't allow you to select this option. Any other mode (e.g., hotseat or versus the AI) does.

This is correct.

The only weather effect in the standard game is the effectiveness hit on axis units in Russia and Finland due to severe winter. Only the GS expansion includes a detailed weather model and effects on combat and movement across the map.

Thanks for the quick and helpful response.

A quick followup question:

1. Can any ship (including subs) carry units (be converted into a transport)? If so, then wouldn't it be logical to purchase the least expensive ships when you are specifically planning to use them later as transports? Or am I missing something?

No. Land and air units only are converted to transports. You use the naval units to protect the transports so enemy subs can't sink them.

Ah so, I was trying to load units on a destroyer, but you seem to be saying that I simply move a unit into an open port and it turns into a transport. Is that correct?

And all this time I was looking to build a transport and couldn't find that option.

Where can the rest of us get a "fox of war" option? :P

You have to move the land unit next to a port hex, and THEN you need to press the 'load' button (which will only be green in this situation). Any land or air unit can be 'loaded'. The transport 'units' are really just a wrapper around the land unit so that it can behave like a sea unit until it arrives at its destination, so naturally, you can't just 'build' a transport unit.

I agree that this is a kind of odd way to model sea transport, and it definitely has some quirks, but within the context of the game as a whole, it seems to do the job.
