Evading twice in one turn

Post by shadowdragon »

Checking on understanding of the rules:

The Situation:

A cavalry BG charges an enemy LH BG, which evades but uncovers a LF BG.
The cavalry are now charging the LF BG which is within charge range (adjusted for VMD).
The LF evade but not far enough and are caught by the cavalry.
The LF break in the melee phase and rout back through the LH.
The cavalry follow and hit the LH.

The question:
Can the LH evade again? My understanding is that the answer is "yes" and that the LH would need to pass a CMT to not evade. (Mind you we did it wrong in the actual game.)\\

Combat, being adjudicated in the next impact phase, would seem to be consistent with a 2nd evade move.

The LH can evade again.
If you think it is unreasonable for them to do so then how come the cavalry have charged, fought and then charged again?

Thanks for confirming, hammy.

I don't think it's unreasonable. We just did it wrong (not due to misinterpretation - just plain forgot), that's all; and only realized our mistake afterwards. Just looking for confirmation that we didn't miss a clause somewhere else in the rules that would have said otherwise. :-)

As it turned out it would have not only been better for the LH but also the cavalry as the cavalry would have passed beyond the charge reach of a lurking enemy superior armoured spear BG and caught the LF to boot.

By the sound of it this is one of those situations where the light horse might want to make a CMT to stand and take it like....... ;)

Let's just say it demonstrated that you can't always get 2 cavalry BG against one foot BG as seems to be suggested elsewhere in "mounted are too good versus foot". I was lucky to get the BG out alive (well down 1 base) and eventually was able to swing the cavalry around to position to charge the flank of the spearmen with a BG of formed foot to the front and skirmishers to the rear of the enemy spearmen. The game was won elsewhere before descending from all sides on the spearmen but still...superior armoured foot....shudder. Tough b*gg*rs.

SO going back to this situation, when is the combat adjudicated? Current or next Impact phase. Never seen this situation in our games.

If a second BG is hit in the impact phase it is done then, if not the next players impact phase.
This can happen often with flank charges as you roll down the line. Hit a BG in flank, disrupting it, if it double drops break it in the impact phase, it bursts through the next in the line, disrupting it, that one then becomes fragmented when hit in the flank and does not need a double drop to break, etc.

putting the arg into argumentative, except for the lists I check where there is no argument!
