V2 Rationale Behind Changes

Post by kal5056 »

I just wanted to ask the folks working on V2 to try and offer some realistic rationale for changes being made.

The rumor mill is already rampant with speculation about 'Changes Coming' and the intentions behind the changes.

I do not want to see V2 splinter our players into camps and the best way to avoid this is to:
First --- Avoid trivial / arbitraty changes
Second --- Present changes in the following format.

"XYZ needs to be changed because of 1234"
"To bring about said change we have done ABC"

I think this format will be vital to prevent the DBX'ing of our wonderful game.

I would say the changes mostly fall into these categories.

1) Clean up errors, interps, goofs and such that have been discovered after publication. You know the stuff you complain about. 8)

2) Adjustments the authors would like to consider for ending some of what are perceived as unfun practices. Table sitting, benny hill, swarm, swarm tactics, excessively powerful skirmishers and anything Dave R comes up with.

I would say the authors have been pretty accepting of being told their brilliant new idea isn't. Then they have adjusted.

That represents the bulk of the 2.0 changes so far.

Then there are some others that they are playing. I would say the authors have been trying to keep the rules from being complicated or messed up. There have been some interesting ideas that appear to be set aside as too radical. So this looks much more like a minor evolution than radical change.

I believe it is a principal of the British Empire that they keep changing the rules to stay on top. In worked for quite a few centuries.

Then look at the game history.

Greece takes 1st at ITC in DBM. FOG launched.
GB denied for 1st time ever a podium at ITC and loses the 1st place a the IWF and FoG 2.0 launched.

Now since Gino you are regularly coming in 3rd or 2nd, there must be something HORRIBLY WRONG.
