Experience suggestion
I believe this has been mentioned before...
When a unit gains the next experience level, some quick simple exp sound should play, and perhaps some sort of exp icon displayed over the unit which gains it. You may want to do this for enemy units as well, but at least it should be done for your own.

Experience Ratio = (def exp level + 2)/(att exp level + 2)
Entrenchment Ratio = (def entr rate + 1) /(att entr rate + 1)
Yeah, stars are ok, better yet, if the unit just got promoted to 4-stars, then show 4-stars so the player doesn't have to CHECK to see what level it hit.
Either that or, use those american strips & bars, though not every nationality used that system for vet status so maybe that's a bad idea, especially if this is supposed to be Panzer Corps.

Why is it relevant that THIS unit in THIS moment gained experince to an ADDITIONAL star, if there is NO immediate effect?
edit:
With exception of a little attack bonus what´s really not important at this time because you don´t change your tactic nor change something else just because this special unit gained experience in this turn. So no basically it´s really not relevant that there is a flashing: YEAH A SECOND STAR. OMG. I´M SO EPIC!
But like I said. I´m still liking the idea because it would be somehow... stylish^^

I don't care so much about stylish, (yes stylish is ok), but this is important. When a unit levels up, it IS IMPORTANT. A one-star difference will often make or break a battle. Take a look at the walkthroughs by the experts on the old PG forums, you'll see all the pros try to maximize every single bit of exp as possible.
When a unit levels up, I don't want to miss it. And I get tired of always having to check everything every turn so that I don't miss it.
Anyhow, for aesthetics, I suggest show the first star in White, then change shading until it's 5-stars where it shows up as Gold?

Ok, we both are fine with the idea... generally. The reasons are different^^Obsolete wrote:I don't care so much about stylish, (yes stylish is ok), but this is important. ^ Why?
Why make things difficult?
Unit experience should be on the map for each unit. Plain and simple.
There is no way to see at a glance what you have.
You have to look right and up, then guess. Then click on each unit.
Experience is important and should be displayed above the unit or below it.
Use a number or stars, either one is good.
This floating icon serves no purpose as you are still blind to what the status is of your units.

I think you missed the actual issue... We´ve talked about a SPECIAL indication when your unit are reaching the next lvl of experience. Not the general illustration of experience.Razz1 wrote:^ Why?

Hmmm Ok sorry for that, I thought you were talking about the display and not the notification.Razz1 wrote:I didn't miss the point.
There is no need for that eye candy.
Serves no purpose.
Fix the root cause first.
Then add Glamor if applicable.
You see, basically you are right but we have to talk as early as possible about all aspects of the game (with exception of the prestige balancing?), IMHO it makes sense to talk about every aspect of the game as early as possible and put it on a list regardless of its priority.
