Generals in overlap

Some one suggested to me that Generals in overlap only cannot fight in the front rank and add their effect of upping the re-roll.

Can they fight in front rank in a BG that is in overlap only?

FWIW I and everyone I've ever played treat the General as fighting in the front rank - even if only in overlap.

Overlaps fight - the General fights in the front rank.

I've never seen this challenged before.

Dan was probably winning was the rationale.

Well the rationale which has some merit is that there is no risk and only benefit. From a game point of view one could see that. It goes to the rules style. Are the specifics included or included, etc.

But there are a few tweaks from the AM to R and I feared I had overlooked it.
